We're not dead!Just busy in the gym training, sweating, pushing the youngsters out of our way(they'er too slow.)and showing them how it's done!!!400 pound bench by 2002 is my goal!Last August I made 365 1rep max.I don't think a dead 41 year old could do that!By age 51 I plan to be benching houses! :) We're not getting older,We're getting better!!Keep the faith!

I guess being old is a state of mind. I'll be 42 soon but I certianly don't consider myself old. On the other hand, a guy I work with is 28 - a couch potato with a bad attitude who smokes cigarettes and eats garbage and complains a lot - now that's old!

Ain't it the truth!! I can't count the times some young guy has decided that he wants to train with me. Guess they figure they can keep pace with me because they're younger. I go to the gym with 'em and even take easy on 'em but they don't often last more than a couple of weeks. Like you say, It's all a state of mind. How long have you trained?

By the way I'm 41. The last victim was 27. Now a new one wants me to help him get in shape, he is 26 I think. I've been avoiding it because when I go to the gym with a newbe my training suffers because I have to show them what to do for which muscle and get on a beginners level with 'em and then they always quit. Makes me feel like I'm wasting my time!

I've been training for about 5 years. I'm helping a younger (28 yr old) beginner right now - it's been about 3 weeks. He's very motivated - the whole experience is slowing down my own progress a little but at the same time it's exciting to see someone who is about to see some big changes in himself. I don't feel like I'm wasting my time because I'm having to focus on some basics and that's good for both of us. I won't let him quit - we already had that discussion.

Yeah I guess you got a point. I trained with an older bodybuilder when I started and with him I was pretty much afraid to miss workouts. I just knew he'd come to my house and kick my butt all the way to the gym. Maybe I should be a little less nice and a bit more stern with them. As far as this new prospect goes I told him where I go and if he ever shows up I'll train with him but I don't think he's for real so the first move's his.

Now that I think of it - I had a training Mentor too - we are still close friends. We don't work out at the gym anymore but we do other activities like diving, kayaking and skiing. Body building can be a lonely obsession if you let it be. Involving other people adds a lot to the whole program if they are motivated too.

People who call themselves old, have already given up. you must have a positive attitude to stay YOUNG
