I've been doing squats and I'm starting to have lower back pain. I've read the articles about tighting my stomach, getting a deep breath and letting it out slowly etc. So I switch to the hack machine and still my lower back spased out at a heavy weight. Could this be a problem, going too heavy too fast?

If you think it's bad, get it checked. I herniated one and have one bulging and after surgery things just aren't the same. Don't risk it...I'd see a professional.

If you can have a floor person watch and correct your form, that would be a great help. If it still hurts after that, like Ogun said see a proffessional. Your thighs and calves should be doing the work, not your back.

try putting a couple of ten pound weights on the floor to help u keep on our heels. remember our form to. always think about keeping your back strait. thats how i was taught! good luck to u!!

My lower back often hurts and also sometimes when I'm doing squats. I still do squats once in a while but I do lunges a lot more often. Nicer to my back and just as great for the legs!

Thanks for the idea Nina. I might have to switch some of my exercises for ones that are nicer to my back :o)

Thanks for the advise. I was looking in the mirror yesterday and noted that my butt sticks out and creates an arched back. I will have to focus better on my alignment and form. Thanks again.
