I would LIke to know which is better not in the long run or as far as strenth for that I have an idea but which is better at building up my chest I know I have to work my whole body which I do but I still have to work my chest and I would like to know which version of the bench is faster at doing that machine or the standard

Ok to change my question because I know how serious you guys take this its a way of life to you I just want to know which is better because on the machine bench or using the standard bench as far as size development and what would be a good work out routine for my chest I know I have to work my whole body which I do but just for the bench what is a good exercise to do

ohhhhhh.

Can I ask why? I don't understand what the difference between benching say 50 lbs on a machine vs. benching 50 lbs with free weights is. Also, I know this doesn't really pertain to the question, but wouldn't it be better to use machines as a beginner, just to make sure you've got proper form down before using free weights?

Damn guys, give the prince a break. BP, if you use a bench you not only hit the specific muscles that a machine will but also all the accessory muscles your body uses to balance itself on the bench. free weight is superior by far. barbell is preferred tho u can use DBs, KBs, sandbags, kegs,etc..

For the most part, when a trainee becomes 'serious' about training, then freeweights are the obvious choice for the reasons already posted. Many beginners start with machines, as they are way out of shape and machines are 'safe'. They also fit the bill for the casual lifter/weekend warrior type who is a bit serious, but just wants to shall we say 'stay in shape'. Now, there is a place for machines even for the serious lifter, but this is usually more toward a contest training protocol when it benefits to try to hit every muscle from every conceivable angle for maximal developement for stage presence. I gotta say I don't think barbell is preferred. Dumbbells should be the first choice. And I use both free weights and machines. The KEY is to change your routine. You shouldn't go in and do bench press with a barbell every time. Change it up! or at least chang up your reps, weight, incline, decline, etc.

as far as stabilizers go, yes db's are better. but still barbell is the prefered and standard way

Preferred and standard huh? They both have their advantages for sure but I have never seen anything written in stone about barbell use for bench press. I have however seen many people in the gym with one side overcompensating for the other on their barbell bench presses. DB's should be implemented in the bench press as well as barbell. But I wouldn't say preferred and standard for either.
