All I know is that marijuana, turns a guy into shit.I was on regular marijuana 4 years back and it destroyed my health.I lost weight, my digestive system went bad and it also affects your family and friends and everyone. You lose focus on life and all you think of is the next pot. Thanks to the gym and some friends, I dont do it anymore, and am very happy about my health and body, but my digestive system is still bad. Stay away from it buddy. |

Uttiya,What do you mean your digestive system is shot? Sorry if it bothers that I ask, but I too was into drugs for about five or six years of my life. Weed on up. I don't do any of it anymore, but am interested in what you said about your digestive system. Thanks...Merlin |

Depending on how much you take and when, Cannabis can actually promote muscle building and fitness. Unlike smoking tobacco, Cannabis has been shown to increase lung capacity and does not block the arteries in the same way. In small doses, cannabis can also promote concentration and determination which can benefit the user when training. However, taking even moderate amounts can lead to the opposite effect, decreasing awareness and motivation. One way the drug can work well is for relaxing after a heavy workout. Because Cannabis numbs the body, it takes away any strains you may feel and returns the body to it's most relaxed state - restoring bloodpressure and heart rate to normal and promoting muscle growth. Unfortunately, Cannabis use can also make the user less than enthusiastic about exercise and may take away motivation completely after frequent use. |

If marijuana is what keeps a person from working out and getting big than that person is only look for something to blame for their laziness. i smoke weed religiously and i managed to gain 20lbs in the last 6 weeks. i'm also at the gym 5 days a week, so there is no effect on my motivation. |

The use of cannabis and its effects on muscle building has had very minimal research. The majority of research done has been in relation to marijuana use and its effect on cardiovascular demand. This research shows that marijuana use fluctuates the body's blood pressure. When comparing subjects who have used marijuana and those who haven't, research indicates that there is not much difference between the two. The noticeable difference between the two is how long the subjects were able to perform an exercise, indicating that marijuana users tended to not endure as long as non-marijuana users. Since the research on building muscle is minimal, more information is needed before we can get a clear picture. However, there have been no signs that cannabis has a negative effect on muscle building. I would not recommend using cannabis before, during, or after a hard workout since it does affect judgement and blood flow |

I truely dont understand the posts on this subject - the last thing that you would want to do after smoking a spliff is to work out. Increased concentration?......dont think so.cannabis has the effect of opening ones mind and making you think that you can do ANYTHING.....unfortunately, after you have taken cannabis you are too "bombed" to even get your arse off the sofa. You cant see me here but im laughing :]....the thought of mixing cannabis and weight training is absurd to say the least. I have had limited cannabis experience (medical research of course:] ) but to think that it would enhance your training in any way is franky very, very funny. |

I used marijuana in the 9th grade during my weight training. Not only did I lose 40 lbs of fat I bulked up considerably in my upperbody. I find it DOES help concentration and determination from first hand experience. It's all good as long as you are a regular smoker and not a giggly clown when you're high. I try to encorperate a joint in my workouts when ever I can.-------------- The foolish reject what they see...the wise reject what they think. |

The only reason why you bulked up was diet, lifting weights and the fact that you were in the middle of a testosterone surge at that age. If you think it was due to smokin some dubs, you have a lot to learn. |

Hello! I just joined up with this sight yesterday. How great it is to learn from so many around the world! Anyway, I just wanted to add some infor to the Marijuana question (actually, giving this type of info is what I do for a living!) Marijuana, as Snowboarder said, does increase air passage ways...the bad news, it contains 4 times the tar of a cigarette. In effect, the airways are expanding to allow more tar/carcinogens in per smoke. Another discovery made about marijuana is that it containes a chemical that your body cannot distinguish from testosterone. In response, the male body reduces it's production of the hormone. This, in turn (and over time depending on what, when, how much is smoked)may lead to "sponge-like" material formulating under the pecs (same type of reaction/side effects seen in anabolic steroid use). Lastly, it may be hard to remain on a strict diet...how many times has someone smoked pot and wondered if there was a nice protein shake left in the fridge (probably more along the lines of cake, cookies, pizza!!!) Sorry for the long post, I hope this helps! |

I ate and eat the same stuff I always did, so diet shouldn't be a factor. And no, I'm not crediting marijuana for my muscle growth. I'm giving it credit for my weight loss. It sped up my metabloism and heart rate proir to my workouts. Those who have the willpower and education to not pig out will be the ones getting the benefits from this magical herb! -------------- The foolish reject what they see...the wise reject what they think. |

I smoke it every so often, and i have read from reliable sources that it does kill testosterone, a major muscle building ingredient. But one thing i will say is Big Arnie has been pictured smoking it numerous times and admitted to smoking joints - and look at him.

This is the craziest post I've read so far!!
I like to toke, and believe me I'd much rather be watching an infomercial for a toaster oven, or vaccuum demonstration than even think about weightlifting - but maybe that's cuz I've got a fetish for household appliances...no, wait I must just be high...hmmm..either way, I'm far from an expert but your system is not in it's natural state when you're fried and I doubt that it really helps you build muscle. Maybe...but probably not. I've been smoking for the past 8 years and it sucks the motivation right outta ya - for me anyways, to each his/her own. If you're focused on getting in shape and reaching your goals...WhY??? why smoke a spliff? wait until after you've worked-out so you don't find yourself mysteriously gorgin' in dairy queen. |

I'm no doctor, and I sure ain't no Mr. Hardbody, but I am sure that the tar, nicotine, carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, and any of a host of the other shit in your doobie ain't gonna help you at the gym ! So keep on tokin, if you wanna believe some of the shit I've just read here !

I know this is an old post, but these guys should stop worrying about how weed if going to affect their gains and start worrying more about the obvious substance abuse problem they have.
I mean, don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with toking, though I don't do it myself... Drinking is my vice, and one vice in my life is enough (damn college), so long as you do it in moderation like repper said. Doing it once in a while, or even just on the weekends isn't too bad, but every night? If I drank every night to relax that would make me an alcoholic. Remember: You don't need it function. As soon as you do, then its no longer a leisure, its a problem. Just my thoughts on the subject. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Its just about doing it, and doing it right. ~Brad~ |

i smoke weed all the time and have had good success with working out as well. watch the movie pumping iron and see how high arnold gets, ha ha anyways giving in to the munchies and pigging out is probably the biggest threat to your progress. im high right now and my sore muscles feel great!

For all of you that like to smoke weed why dont you try to eating it instead, like in a brownie. It would be easier to transport and you can even consume it in public! That way you won't be harming your lungs in any way and still be able to "increase your concentration". Personally I can only accomplish light activity when I'm high. I couldn't imagine pushing my self when I'm stoned.

Well, heres my opinion! This is the craziest stuff i have ever read. I've done my share of partying but have been clean as a whistle for 10 years. Bottom line is what goes into the body comes out of the body and if you all think that smoking weed will improve your health or wont affect your health, sorry but your all sadly mistaken. Your ruining your lungs, immune system. Muscles will respond to any sort of weight training but that doesnt mean your healthy....I cant even believe there is a question about this!!! Anyone can get big by lifting, but apparently it takes a select few to truly be inshape. I use to weight train ( 228lbs @ 9% body fat currently) squat 505lbs and then go run the mile in under 6 min. 38 sec.Now that is inshape and big all steroid free and weed free. I would like to see how some of the "tokers" on this sight would hold up in a 2 mile speed run!!!

hmmmm well i thought i would share my thoughts about this subject.... now i have smoked regularly for about 2 years now and while it does make you lazy (i wouldnt do it before a workout) i use it as a tool to come anywhere close to what this site says my calorie/protein intake should be(230/2750). Now it is very hard for me to gain weight and other than the obvious motivational detriment weed definitely helps keep me hungry enough to come anywhere close to these numbers... just a thought...
