I'm going to go through the Max OT system on ast-ss.com and I'm wondering how I'm supposed to pick the weight to do for each set. It seems the Max OT system simply tells you what excercises to do and how many sets/reps while leaving the amount of weight up to you. I'd think that it'd be better to have a computer system choose my weight based on max-outs or something and then have it gradually increase the amounts each week.

So my questions are:

1) What do other people who are on Max OT do, do you pick your own weights or do you have a computer program help you?

2) Is there a website or program out there that I can use in conjunction with Max OT to help choose my weight amounts with gradual increases? Preferrably for free :)

Thanks!

You need to find a weight where you can do from 4-6 reps. They emphasize very strongly that if you can do more than 6 reps, then the weight is too light, and if you can't do 4, then it is too heavy.

What wigwam2 says is exactly correct. Your warmup is key. If you are really interested in doing the Max Ot workout, it would behoove you to read through all chapters of the workout on their website. Warmup plays a key role in doing this correctly and getting maximum overload.

Yeah, I think I will read the entire program before starting. I read the 1st week and figured I would read each week as I went.

So as far as picking weights go, there is no guidelines for what weight to do? I realized that the idea was to pick a weight I could do 4-6 times, but I figured it would be good to have some system/program help decide how much the weight should increas from week to week. So it seems I just do whatever weight I feel I can do 4-6 times after my warmups?

The first two weeks of that program are more to get the feel of the program and so you can learn what weights you can use in my opinion. You will be surprised with how heavy you can go for 4-6 reps, so make sure you are going heavy enough. When looking at it, it doesn't seem to be enough, but when you are lifting with full intensity, it is the best workout available in my opinion. Make sure you read, and re-read the section about intensity. I don't remember which week it was, but wow, that really got me going.

Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.
