Is this just me or has anyone else noticed this.????in my 40's it seems I need to eat less calories despite weight training 6 days a week, doing cardio amd working a 10 hr day? It gets harder to maintain weight eating the same amount of calories? I drop my consumption with each passing year. By time I am 60 I will be living on air!!!!! |

Well I know that you have a slow metabolism. I'm lucky of having a fast one, but I still cannot eat all those ice creams and candies as when I was 12 years old and then today.......Yes the metabolism change with age. Unfortunately I don't have a magical solution for that (other than keeping your muscle mass and doing cardio......) |

Leslie I was thinking about one thing. I know that you are a clever person and you have probably tried everything, but why not eating more calories (and more carbs) in total daily calorie intake? This can actually boost up your metabolism (and make it more efficient since it now has energy to burn!!). Also often if a person can not loose weight it's sometimes because he or her has completely cut off the essentiel Omega 3 and 6 fats. It's rather funny, but we need fat to burn fat..... Nutrition (and our bodies) is a very complicated thing, but to know and find out what works for us, we have to take certain risks and try different things. |

I do use the flax seed oil but I think I need to increase the amount (cuticles are dry, good indicater). My diet is 15-20% good fat. I tried the higher calories this winter and I gained 5 pounds of fat (and 5 pounds muscle)which I am now in the process of losing. I dropped my calories back downto 1200-1300 day since I am no longer trying to add muscle. So I am going to go back to that but zig Zag up higher on Mon and Thur. only. Thanks for the idea Nina. |

it is hard for me to eat all the calories that i need which is 5000 but do to cutting up i have drop it down to 4000-3500 for the next 2 weeks but even then it is hard to eat . but the more i do workout especially cardio i do get hungry more. try a variety of foods in the same day instead of just chix all day or fish. i eat something different every meal. and that water intake is up to 1 and 1 halg gal a day. i seem to crave more foods also when i sub a meal for a mrp shake of course liquids do not stay with you that long. |

The Whey shakes make me wanting to eat a cow afterwards....... Hmmmmm I stopped drinking them at night since I always went to bed with the feeling of having a hole in my tummy (I do have lots of discipline thou so I never wake up and eat during the nights... Anyway I hate eating before sleeping....it gives me nightmares! :o) Anyway, what I wanted to say; Whey shakes taken with water can boost your metabolism (and digestion) and can make you eat more. |

By the way, that's why Whey is the very best choice of protein one can take as post workout shake..... (it only takes around one hour to digest, BUT with water and NOT with milk! Milk slows down the body's capacity of quick protein absorption for the hungering muscles....) |

Because of the Whey composition and not because of the liquid form. But as I said, mixing the powder with milk can slow down the fast absorbtion (and digest the proteins slower which means that you'll have more constant energy for the muscles) |

The prob with soy is that the body is not able to completely absorb its proteins since there is a very big lack of some necessairy amino acids. That's why one should always mix soy, tofu etc with other carbs like rice, wheat or quinoa (u know that one?!!). By mixing these nutritions you'll get all the needed amino acids, and your body can get all the benefits. Mixing soy with whey? Why not if you like the taste.... |

Read the labels though as Soy Milk generally has sugars added to improve the taste. |
