I have seen mirrors in the gyms I have been in and am curious as to there purpose. I have set up a small home gym off to one unused corner in our family room, and thought how neat it would be to put up some mirrors. Does it help to watch yourself while working out, to ensure proper form or something? The wife says that I spend too much time in front of the mirror as it is now. But if I could convince her that it helps you to feel better about yourself while working out, well, maybe she'll buy it (literally), and let me put some mirrors up. Help me win this one.
Thanks.................

Form and motivation seem to be the primary purposes. I use the mirrors to make sure for example the back stays straight during certain lifts and to make sure I'm not cheating by swinging my body or exagerating my motions (lateral raises, curls, etc.). It is also very motivating to 'check yourself out', determine areas of strength/weakness.

BINGO GUYS. Some guys take the mirrors too far sometimes for vanity purposes or to pretend how to box...sorry, I just have some obnoxious jerk-offs at my gym who only lift arms, chest, and their abs. These are the guys who LOVE mirrors. Thats what you get when you live in the ARROGANCE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD...LONG ISLAND.

They just recently seperated the free weight area and cardio equipment at my gym. They put the free weights in a room w/o mirrors. I have to tell you I found it sometimes difficult to lift properly w/o the mirrors. I find myself using them to ensure the proper form. Ok, I do admit it's nice to see the pump working as well.
