Hey guys,

As I am sure a lot of you are as well, I am a full time worker and do not have the time in the morning to get my workout or cardio session in before heading to work. I usually finish work around 5:00pm and I go to the gym right after. Since I do not do my cardio in the morning, is it counterproductive? How can I burn unneeded calories and fat when I am merely using the energy from my lunch? I want to do it in the morning because people say working out or doing cardio is always better than in the evening. Is this true?

Thanks for the input guys.

Not sure it really makes a whole lot of difference in the grand scheme of things... just get it done...

By some research, test levels are a bit higher in the morning than evening. However, this is debatable. I think it may be a bit true though, considering myself and "desire" in the morning. But, in the end, it is not the defining factor.

Tim puts it correctly, in the overall picture, it makes little difference. You will never just be using your lunch, it is a matter of overall calorie expenditure throughout a day as compared to caloric intake. Bottom line, if diet is adequate and you are putting forth effort in the gym, no matter what time you go, you will achieve your goals.

I like the fact that when I workout in the morning I have more energy, and I have time to eat right all day instead of a light meal and protein shake that I used to have after an evening workout.

My understanding was it didn't matter what time of day...as long as it was the same time every time you workout...something to do with your body adjusting to getting a workout at certain time..this may be a myth. But I say as long as you're doing it...great!

Hey, KC...

Some suggest changing it up once in a while for variety...

One of the biggest problems I have run into with myself and clients is with evening workouts, folks come up with a million reasons why they just can't work out tonight, work was too hard, stress, etc. And gyms are typically more crowded, in fact packed in early evening hours. Some folks get intimidated by this. It is easier to blow it off in the evenings I think. Getting it done first thing in the morning and it is done and behind you. But, bottom line, judt do it!

I recently switched to morning workouts and I love it! I was going after work and just didn't like how it cuts so much into my evening. Now I get up at 4:00 a.m. to get to the gym by 5:00. My work is just a block from the gym, so I bring my clothes and other accoutrements and get ready at the gym. I'm usually finished getting ready by 7:30 and have time for a bowl of oatmeal from the cafeteria at work. I used to run late, and now I'm always the first one in the door, so it has been positive overall. I don't really think of myself as a morning person, so I really had to force myself in the beginning. Now it's no sweat (until I get to the gym :-)).
