Study: Dieting Useless, May Damage Health
Tuesday , April 10, 2007
New study find the majority of weight loss diets do not work and could put dieters at risk for diabetes, heart attacks and strokes, according to a published report.
Researchers at the University of California said an analysis of more than 30 studies showed that while people do lose weight initially in weight loss plans, more than two- thirds regain all the pounds with most becoming heavier then their pre-diet weight, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Experts say that rapid weight gain and loss linked to yo-yo dieting has been shown to lead to heart disease, diabetes and a weakened immune system.
"We decided to dig up and analyze every study that followed people on diets for two to five years,? said Dr Traci Mann. ?We concluded most of them would have been better off not going on the diet at all.?
Researchers believe problem may be worse, as it is thought that most dieters lie about their weight and are not forthcoming about telling professionals that they have regained weight.
