Hello all. Well, I got back from Iraq and achieved what I set out to. I lost almost forty pounds and got toned and strong and fit. I have been home for more than a month and am not keeping up with my working out. I have such dreams that I want to still achieve in the area of fitness. My question to you all is what keeps you going? What makes you go to the gym when you would rather lay on the couch? How do you keep up with the nutrition? I seem to have lost my way and want to know how you all stay on track. Thank you.

For me it takes quicker times and having to use heavier weights. I know if I'm not seeing any performance improvements for the effort I expend on fitness I'll begin to slack off. If I'm not seeing improvements I figure out why not, rework the routine until I improve.
Nutrition, I never take time to measure out portions I use common sense, and that works fine for me as I'll never lie to myself. I don't need motivation to stay on track nutritionally, it's just how I eat.
Ironically it's harder for me to get off the couch and study than getting off the couch and go running...

Mostly for a challenge for myself. I am 34, kind of old, and I want to make myself as chiseled as I can. Now, the desire sometimes isn't enough to keep me in the gym. I was just wondering how you all stuck with it.

kind of old? at 34? Thats prime time man! Whenever my motivation starts slipping, I take a good look at myself, and then look through pics of all the muscle gods I've been worshipping for years...then I think 'Damn, I want to look like that".

Thank you all for the great advice. I always love to come to this site for good information and help. I will look to the pictures of who I want to look like, like yooper said. That should be enough. As for health, that is true. Long, healthy living should be enough to keep one in the gym. Thanks for that. I would love to look like Ernie Reyes Jr. He looked awesome in "The Rundown" with the Rock. I am about his height and think this is a possibility. Thanks for the help and happy training!!
