Hi peeps this is my first post. i've read through quite a few others and alot of the info seem pretty useful. it great to see a network of people providing support and info on training.
I've been training on and off since i was 16. I'm now 25 and since Jan 1 have been training pretty hard. doing more than i have ever done before and training harder.
and for the first time since i started training, I am now on a diet and watching exactly what i eat.
My dietary goal is to consume no more than 10g's of saturated fat a day, thats about as much as you'd get from two glasses (250ml) of full strength milk.
and it seems to be working to a point. my diet doesnt taste the best but everyone has commented on the amount of weight i've lost.
started using the electro scale thingy that measures everything and these are the results so far:
age: 25
Dec 31
weight: 92.5kg
height: 1.84m
BMI: 27.3
FAT Index: 19.4
FAT Mass: 17.9kg
so i seem to be losing weight...but i'm also losing what must be muscle as well...which is worrying me
my usual gym routine starts with a 30 min bike ride where i get my heart to sit between 160-180 for a good 25 mins
now i feel recked doing this but a good recked
it feels as though i'm working hard and have to fight to get to the end...its not like i'm collapsing at the end i just get off and go do weight for about 1.5hrs
after the weights i do about 30 mins of abs
i've read a few articles and posts on here that talk about cardio breaking down muscle
is this what is happening to me?
i've since changed my cardio to a 5 min warm up before weights and then 25 mins after i finish the weights and cardio where i'm only peaking at a 170 heart rate
i'm so confused as i only the day before i realised the damage i've done, i spoke to a Personal Trainer at the Gym and asked her about what i was doing to which she said that i should be fine so long as i'm not collapsing at the end and not control and feel sick...
if it is the cardio what should i be doing?
is this overtraining?
cause i dont feel like crap...
and if your not meant to train so hard then whats the point of a Trainer? especially if they give you the info that the above one gave me?
any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated
i dont get why fitness is such a mystery when its meant to be so scientific0403862280

The number one thing to look at in this case is your diet...you need to up your protein pretty drastically.
When you have that in order, then you need a program to match your recouperative ability. That is, if you train like Arnold and eat like JJ on good times, chances are you are going to lose muscle and look more like JJ. You need to find a medium that does not overdo things. Too much training with incorrect diet is very catabolic.
Did you start a fairly severe diet right away? A big calorie differential right off the bat will result in a large and immediate muscle loss.
