Muscle Mags and Their Programs

I have a conspiracy theory. It's one that I think many lifters have pondered. It's that the workout programs in muscle magazines don't work that well. Not only do they not work that well, but they're mostly dependent (whether fictitiously or not) on supplements that the magazine in question sells.
I've been reading Testostorone (t-mag.com) for some time now, and although some of their information is great, their programs don't seem to work as they state they will. I think this is a ploy to frustrate people using them, and in turn get them to buy supplements they "need". Am I right or just cynical?
I realize that a magazine like testostorone makes its cash from its supplement sales, but are they purposely giving out false information? They have respected people in the industry write these articles, what's going on?

Those articles are usually designed or written by pro athletes, and are usually too advanced for the average reader.

I have followed some of the programs from Muscle & Fitness Hers and Men's health, i think they are pretty god, you have to push yourself hard, though.
The best program in the world won't yeild results without a tight dietary plan and intense workouts, though.

Haha, I assure that the problem has nothing to do with lack of work ethic or proper nutrition. I've been doing this thing for a long time.

You have to keep in mind, also, that the top athletes have amzing genetics and a lot of 'supplemental' help. So a program that works for them may not work for the average jane/joe who isn't genetically gifted (and most of us aren't) and isn't on gear.

I didn't mean to imply you didn't know what you are doing.
And there most assuredly is a slant to many articles to boost sales of products made by the same company that (what a coincidence) publishes the magazine. But I guess that is the purpose of most magazines - to guide you to consume certain commodoties that they profit from.

I've just read Ronnie Colemans workout and it puts down his poundage he swings about for the sets n' reps. I haven't seen the poundage on an article before- it's a bonus to know what you can have a possibility of if that's the goal. It wasn't accompanied with an appraisal but small ads here and there- The next section was ''The Top Six Must Have Supplements''. So hype and a bit of factual interest... They have to try and turn a coin, shame there is a couple of bad pennies.
We know our personal favourites and I think protein comes top then , creatine, and always a multi vit blah, blah... But what really does do what it says on the box? Is there a special 'get out of jail free supplement? No!
I think it's a good food programme and correct exercise for your goal that's a first priority. But that doesn't make money!

ia agree with swimmer Muscle and fitness and mens health have ver very good workouts. Good combo of bodybuilding and athletic/ strength training. Flex, and all the other ones are for body builders who are on "somthing" lee priests arm routine is 7 excercises of biceps and 7 excercises of triceps with reps over 10. Theres no way i could do this my arms would fall off and i would have to take 3 or 4 days off.....and he work outs like 6 days a week.......there's "a lil somthing" different. Basicly put if you don't like it, don't agree with it.......one simple thing.......don't read it, don't buy it.

Oh yes, that mysterious supplement that has been floating around for decades. I hear that it is supposed to make you stronger, recover faster, and build muscle like no other, and prevent your body from eating muscle to create energy. I have read by a lot of magazines, mostly men's health, that a lot of the bodybuilder magazines are geared toward individuals that take that wonder supplement I was describing above. Yes, seven exercises of bi and tri of 12-15 reps with one day off might seem like a stretch, to mere mortals. Well, I'm gonna stop ranting. It almost seems like a good idea to cheat, until you really think about it.
