You may be pleased to hear that I'm working on sponsoring a Raw Push/Pull meet, right here in the rock.
Tentative for the spring (I've got a highland competition in fall and a strongman comp in winter), but figured I'd give you something to train for... I'm looking to follow USAPL guidelines, and if you know anyone around my weight that might feel like getting dominated, your welcome to let them know... Again, all tentative, but it'll give you a reason to put the hours in. -------------- Iron and chalk. |

Well either way, your gunna have to out press and out pull me, because there is no squat cage in this competition to seperate the men and boys.
This is no easy task. My goal for this competition is to pull 495 and press 275. That'll give me a 770 sub total at 150lbs. You're pulling what now, the bar? -------------- Iron and chalk. |

No, thats what you're not getting. It is just the total of your bench press and deadlift, not squat. So we're looking at more like 600+.

Hey, 135 would still be almost my bodyweight, more than you can say for your 600. :-P
Anyways, I hope you're doing all the lifting to back up all the smack you're talking. You can talk all you want until contest time. It will be fun competing with Mutt when he drops to my weight class(and/or when wrestler moves up to my weight class? lol)....I have him in bench and deadlift, he has me in squat....so it should be interesting.... Well since I'm not asking how to get abs are what variation of kickback will make my arms look better...
And I'm pretty sure the 500 deadlift club at my bodyweight and age will give me a state record. Like I said, my final pull in the competition will be 495 (5 plates). -------------- Iron and chalk. |

Dude, I know what it takes for me to progress. 5 reps is my goal, I will hit 6 junior year, and 7 before I graduate.
Besides, 495 will be a 40lb PR. I only go up in quarters and plates (You know you're a powerlifter when you can't count over 5, but you can multiply by 45 in your head). -------------- Iron and chalk. |
2006/07/21, 10:20 PM
dont know 500 just sounds so much more impressive than 495....:)...whats another 5 lb for you...

Well I pretty much only go up in 25 or 45lb increments. I don't care what it sounds like, I want 5 plates in competition, not 500lbs. It's more personal reasons than anything else. 5lbs doesn't sound like much, but if it breaks me mentally it will break me completely. I know where my focus is, waste of energy to redirect that focus.
As for my future, I'd like to hit 600 before I hit 200lbs. Hopefully not over 210 by the time I get that 7th plate. I'll have to see where my squat is at next week. Haven't done anything with a back squat since my tendon injury (can't hold the weight on my back). I started pressing about 2 weeks ago, and still can't get under the bar. I'm starting to get upset. -------------- Iron and chalk. |
2006/07/22, 08:03 PM
Steve you know yourself better than anyone and I am sure you'll do whatever works best for you. I agree with you completely about the 5lb....I talk of it like it's nothing but there were many times where it broke me down mentally and therefore affected me physically....there were times where it was literally the straw that broke the camels back....
good luck with the recovery....I know u have too many injuries to list but hopefully they will all heal soon...:) | |

Fortunately, with proper rehab and prehab, a lot of my injuries have diminished to the point where they have stopped affecting my lifting most of the time.
My hips are getting better, so I just have to wait for my hand to fully heal. Problem is tendons take FOREVER to heal, so I'm going on week 8 now. Did a speed squat workout today. Couldn't wrap my thumb around the bar, and had to really focus on keeping my chest out so I had a place to rack the bar, but it felt good. Did 60% or so (165) plus 1 chain per side. Probably could have done 2 chains and kept the weight and not lost too much speed, but once I get started with DE work, I just go until it's done. Followed that with some light RDLs, and then prehab (external rotations, leg adduction, mobility drills, rotator cuff stretching and static hip flexor stretching). Saturday will be pretty much speed work and prehab from now on. -------------- Iron and chalk. |

Now mutt, lets talk that 6th plate. 2008 RIT Push/Pull, it's going down. If I'm shooting for that in a year and a half you better be raising me one plate.
Besides that, I'm wearing a kilt in the highland games, and in all likelyhood will probably wear it in the powerlifting meet, just for shits and giggles. Do you really want someone in a skirt to out pull you? -------------- Iron and chalk. |

I had the last word, therefor I win...
I'll be in meetings most of next week putting this thing together, so I should have more info in the next couple weeks. Besides that, I'm having problems pulling 365. Haven't worked back up to 405 yet, but my form has gone to shit since not pulling in so long. I'm working on my scapular retraction, once thats up to par 405 should be no problem. Probably won't pull much more than that till I hit 455. That leaves me plenty of time to get up to dling your bodyweight, err that 5th plate. As for little guy, I'm working my way up to 175lbs... of food per day. -------------- Iron and chalk. |

BTW, at least 1 160lber will beat you, even if it isn't me. Joe Delgado, the collegiate bench press record holder will be lifting with us. He is hoping to hit 500 raw in his next competition. I don't even know what his deadlift is. -------------- Iron and chalk. |

Well so far, you've managed to use you're stereotypical "I am rubber you are glue" responses that you used to use in the 3rd grade when Ron was taking your lunch money.
