Philia mentioned something on another thread about tanners disguising skin imperfections so I thought I'd ask here - does anyone know a good natural looking tanner to use? I took my daughter to the pediatrician yesterday and he got all over me about my tan - I'm dark complected so it was only about three days worth of sun, but my father is eaten up with skin cancer and since I don't burn I've never used sunscreen much when I go out. When I tan my skin gets very dark brown and most of the tanners I've seen used have an orangey cast that would look very weird on me. I'm sure they've come a long way over the years but I don't even know where to start looking. Also I've heard tanners stain stretch marks a different color than the surrounding skin. I have a lot of stretch marks on my legs from pregnancies so that's a concern as well. |

Mods...Since I haven't gotten any response on this question, would it be okay to repost it in another forum? I thought this would be a good place to start but maybe the competition forum would have been a better choice. |

sorry, jess....this is the first time ive seen this post.jan tana offers a number of great tanning products, all pro quality, from tanning accelerators (which it sounds like you DONT need...LOL) to sunless tans. and i've never heard any one complain of orange-ness or streaks. their website is jantana.com - it has the best descriptions of products, but numerous sports supplement stores carries their products, including on the web. best of luck........... -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |

I know some good tanning products, but the problem is that it's mostly European/French stuff (well maybe you got the l'Oreal or Nivea?!).For better result scrub your body before and put some hydrating cream on your body as well. Lots of the creams only give you a light tan so you need to put it on several days before getting the excact color you desire. Yes, the skin looks soooooo much firmer, leaner and nicer with a tan. -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

i have read about a new tanning booth called mystic tan or something like that. its supposed to be a machine that will spray your body entirely with the tan. considering i do not want to harm my skin in the sun or with beds, and i'm awfully bad at applying self tanner, this may be an option for me. anyone else try this? |

Thanks, everyone! Philia, we do have both L'oreal and Nivea here; both are fairly easy to find. Thanks for the tips.Rev, I'll check out that site as well - thanks to you, too. :) J - I know some people are very happy with the Mystic booths but I've heard they stain stretch marks so haven't tried it personally. That's purely rumor, though - maybe you could try it and give us a review. ;) |

well, yesterday i tried the mystic tanning booth and so far so good. i am happy with the results. just standing in a booth while i got sprayed was too easy! in a couple of hours my tan had started to show and it looks pretty good. its was a little pricey IMO - $29. i will just have to see how long the tan lasts before i need to go back and get it done to see if it will be worth the cost. no stained stretch marks yet :) |

Great, I'm glad you tried it. I've been curious about those. $29 is steep though... whew!I checked out the Jan Tana site and it looks like good stuff but needs to be reapplied every four or five days I believe... I'm a low maintenance kind of girl so that sounds like a lot of work to me. LOL |

Whew thanks for sharing your experience with us jwhisner, sounds quite funny actually!! Jessica, I'm afraid that you HAVE to reapply all the tan creams every 4-5 days if you want to keep the tan..... Something else that works, is taking those self tanner supplementary pills.... No dangerous chemicals in those (at least not here in France) but beet root color, carrot and beta carotene....... Doesn't make you orange but it doesn't give a VERY strong color either. -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

Philia, I've heard of those but not sure if they're available in the US... the thought of dying myself from the inside out, though... I have to admit it sort of gives me the willies. Also I've known a couple of people who overloaded on vitamin A and they really turned orange. ORANGE orange. Does the beet root counteract that? Or do you know how the pills work? Are they commonly used in Europe? |

"Canthaxanthin is an all natural, organic, nutritional supplement. Found in many plants, it's what gives the red color to many fruits, vegetables and flowers. Manufacturers use it as a non-toxic food coloring for many items such as fruit drinks, spaghetti sauce, and bar-b-que sauce. People taking 30mg tablets of Canthaxanthin as a nutritional supplement have noticed a pleasant side effect. Canthaxanthin can give color to the second layer of skin known as the subcutaneous (fat) layer. The results... Since the top layer of your skin is transparent, it can give the appearance of a natural-looking golden-bronzed tan, evenly spread throughout the body - minus the ultra violet exposure associated with sun tanning and indoor tanning beds. Still it is also used with tanning beds or outdoor tanning for an even deeper bronzing."the only thing is that the FDA has not approved supplement companies to list canthaxanthin as an internal tanner, only as a nutritional supplement. -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |

Weird, weird stuff! LOL Didn't realize there were so many options. Thanks to all. I've seen beet juice on ingredient lists before as a food coloring but didn't realize it had the same effect on the human body. Yikes. Just curious 8ball - what exactly is the purpose of supplementing with Canthaxanthin other than that particular side effect? What health benefits is it supposed to have? |
