I get really nauseated when doing a good legs workout--even after only four sets of squats. I put plenty of time in between sets and don't overdo the weight. I have, however, discovered that the nausea is decreased when I don't eat or drink anything before the workout, so I don't. Still, it's there. I've asked doctors about it, but they are clueless. Anyone else get regular nausea on legs day--and if so, how do you deal with it?

How much cardio do you do. It may be that you need to build a little more endurance. I get a little dizzy after some heavy squats, but that's about it. If it isn't the endurance then it may be something in your diet. Hope somebody else can help you more than I have, lol.

There have been other posts on this...especially in the powerlifting forum (I believe). It is normal for some...I sometimes feel like vomiting after a super heavy session of squats.-------------- **_Robert_** Pain is temporary; glory is forever! |

Yeah, my cardio sux. I need to get on the bikes more. It's just that when I'm done with a killer workout, I have no energy or inclination. I'll give it more effort. Thanks.

I've had some success overcoming this by doing the following:
1) Not eating at all for hours before working legs. 2) Taking it easy on the coffee. No more than 8 oz. 3) Taking some Aleve ahead of time to keep my head from splitting. 4) Breaking up quads by doing calves between the compound exercise (like squats) and the isolation exercises (like extentions) to allow the dizziness and potential nausea to subside. By doing the above, I was actually able to do the following (in this order) with very little nausea: 5 sets of heavy leg press 6 sets of seated calf raises 5 sets of leg extensions 4 sets of leg curls I've had to stay away from squats until I get some good knee wraps due to an injury in my youth. Damn football. Hope all this helps others in my predicament. I figure I'll be able to do more as my body adapts to the heavy legs. I've hated working legs so much, yet now I'm starting to look forward to doing them. After spending some 13 years getting degrees and improving my mind, that movie still ranks #1 in my book. Conan novels and comics also rule. Must be a bodybuilding thing. Conan is a uniquely American hero--individualistic, frontier mentality, and driven--much like the Duke.

"What you squat, to me, is the measure of a man. Leg day is the day I dread. That's the day where you throw up, you pass out--hopefully without the bar on your back. Leg day at home depends on how brave I'm feeling and what time of the year it is. Sometimes I do the death set of 20 . That's something you can do about 10 of. So around 10 you're done--the next 10 is the the worst 70 seconds of your life. I turn the music off, because if I have loud music on after a set of 20, it will make me throw up."

I don't feel sick either usually but I get awful dizzy when I get up from the inverted leg press; I don't squat the traditional method with a back and knee that could go any moment...I need safeguards in place...but the muscle grows anyhow :D
Speaking of injuries, prolly the wrong place, but sort of not.... Last Month's Flex Magazine talks about one of the popular body builders who's JUST making a comeback; he was heavy-squatting for a photo shoot about a week before a competition, and he ripped tendons in BOTH legs, had to get surgery, says he can still lift after lots and lots of rehab, but he can no longer hike or jog. Be careful, homies. -------------- --There are no versions of the truth.-- Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic Park II |

LOL. This is a little off topic, but I was perusing this post and noticed a Conan reference. First thing I thought of was Conan O'Brien. Ha.

Just to add, Arnold used to say that it wasn't a good leg day until he had puked, maybe someone has the exact quote.
I just came back from a week off of training, and went full blast with my legs routine. I almost puked after squats and got really dizzy after leg curls...of all exercises. Weird |

All that blood rushing from the head to the nether regions. It's eased up now that I'm doing more leg press--where my head is lower than my feet.-------------- . . . to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women . . . |
