does anyone know how to build up the neck muscles? i know building up the trapezius gives a thicker neck look in the back, but what about in the front and on the sides?

I have the same question? And when exercising the neck how heavy do you want to go? I would think that neck muscles could be injured quickly under strain.

Your neck muscles are the same as any other. Just make sure to stretch it out before and after you exersice it. As long as you control the weight and don't jerk the weight but do it under control you can go as heavy as you can.

The gym i work out at has two neck machines which work great. You can also buy a head harness that works great to. But if your gym doesn't have one and you can't afford a harness, you can put a towel on your head(for padding) and place a 25lb. plate or what ever weight you can handle, lay face down or on your side or stomach ans hold the plate there and move your neck up and down. Do you understand what i mean? It's easier to show than explain. But it works really well.

It might be a little hard to target your neck mucles as you do for other muscle parts. but as rob you can always try use some little weight to work it out in the way he described....just keep the load moderate about 25 lbs is fine if you haven't tried it before...the last thing you'd want to do is injure your neck or bust it. BTW rotating your neck clockwise and anti-clockwise every now and then can give it a good stretch.

if you are just starting don't use weights to exercise your neck. use yor hands to apply resistance against the front of your forehead push your head as far forward as possible do it 10 times; do the same for he back and sides, 1 set of 10 reps in every direction should be enough; after a month try 2 sets of 10. rotate your head clockwise and counterclockwise for stretching before and after.

I use a neck machine that they have in my gym. I only use it one a week because i do not want to hurt my neck. I use a weight that is not to heavy and I make sure I have the form down right so I dont pull anything or hurt anything. Even though I only use it once a week and not with heavy wieghts i stillg et musle because teh neck mussles are stimulated very easy.

I use a light comfortable weight, not to light though. There's a neck machine in our football weightroom, but if U didn't have a neck machine than I'd use those rubber bands that they sell.
