recently i fractured my neck and jumbled a disc in wrestling practice and since i have been doomed to not be able to work out for 3-4 months going from a healthy/active lifestyle to being forced to stay home infront of the tv/computer...maintaining a positive outlook i decided now would be a great time to gain some much needed fat so when i am allowed back into the weight room i can turn that fat into muscle mass, i easily gained 10lbs of water weight within the 4 days after my injury but now find myself not gaining at all. My questions are what do i eat to maintain weight gain without having to buy any special supplements, another concern is i had the school bench press record for my weight class and would like to maintain my strength, my brother tells me it is impossible for me to lose muscle, true or false? also if i take whey protien during an non activity period will that just run through my system or will it turn into fat? any help would be greatly appreciated
Hello and welcome to ft. Sorry about your injury. I hope you are doing EXACTLY as prescribed by your physician during your recovery. Do you participate in any physical therapy? If not, you need to check into that. Adipose tissue (fat) cannot be converted into muscle tissue. That is a myth. Without physical activity muscles tissue will be lost. If you are unable to perform resistance training you don't need to eat a diet really high in calories. Concentrate on eating enough to maintain your weight without gaining to much fat. But keep it clean (Good, nutritious foods, no refined junk, etc)and in the proper ratios (p/c/f). Try walking to keep your metabolism up. Spend your free time searching this and other good sites to educate yourself on aspects of nutrition and fitness and plan for your COMEBACK. Go slow and make sure you heal completely. Good Luck
