I broke 2 bones in my neck a few years ago while doing squats. I have had constant problems since then with headaches - particularly after doing any upper body work. Is there anything out there in sports medicine besides staying on anti -inflamitory meds?

First off what are you doing, doing squats with the bar on your neck? The bar should rest on your traps and shoulders. Bad form is to blame for that. Second the best over the counter pain killers i have found is to take two ibuprophin and two tylenol at the same time. One is an anti-inflamitory and the other dulls your brains perception of pain. I learned this from my wifes doctor, because thats what they gave heer after she gave birth to my daughter, and it works great with all types of pain.

man...that must have hirt bad... just like rob said you need to have that barbell resting on your traps or shoulders..never your neck...also use a pad or wrap a thick towel around the middle of the bar. There are 18 neck muscles...and the tendons connect them to several bones which lead to the spine...all I can is be carefull when doing squats again or any other exercises that directly involves your neck. also avoid doing lat pull down behind the neck (to work the traps)...I remember getting my neck injured more once but believe me it wasn't as bad as getting my skull creaked open when an entire shelf fell right on top of my head...man did that hirt....

Hi wireguy.I've broken bones before, though never in my neck, thats gotta be scary. Some times when the damage is close to the joint, the pain can last a long time.Have you tried glucosamine/chondroitin?It rebuilds and preserves joint tissues, cartilege. It is supposed to help prevent arthritis which is also a danger with a fracture close to a joint.Good luck.

P.S.I'm 41 and have been weight trainig for years.I've got a few spots in different joints in my body that cause me pain when I lift.I started taking the glucosimine/chondroitin about 5 months ago and while I still have a little pain it's not near what it used to be.If you try it be aware that it takes a couple of months to see results.
