How would a guy find out the right size to buy his wife a clothing gift.

Well, you could just ask her, or look at the tag on a dress, shirt, or pair of pants, and there is your answer.

Buy her a really tiny dress and save the receipt. You will be a double winner, she will think that you think she is tiny, and she will be able to go buy her own clothes, which is what she really wants to do anyway.-------------- I make fun of others to compensate for my low self esteem. It works. |

Hec has the best suggestion. I recommend that you select an item which is a size 6. You can't possibly guess what size to buy and be correct so it's better to err on the side of extreme caution. She might not exchange the clothing, she might save it as an incentive. I've had a pair of size 6 Rockies in my closet for the last 3 years. I've never been able to wear them but they are one of my favorite pair of jeans. No, it doesn't make sense but that's not really the point.-------------- Anni ******* Hard work must have killed somebody |

I beg to differ here Woodie.
There is a dangerously fine line between complimenting her on the "thought" she is a size six and insulting her by not knowing that she is not. I suggest you solicit the help of one of her girlfriends or a sister to help you shop. Or, you could have her unwrap a gift with a photo of the mall or her favorite store inside, a creative and safe way to let her know you will be taking her out shopping for a little something for her to wear. Whatever you decide...good luck! -------------- Julienne A morning without coffee is like something without something else. |

I brought Juli clothes one christmas and she returned every single item. She is on her own when it comes to clothes.-------------- I make fun of others to compensate for my low self esteem. It works. |

Same here. I don't even try anymore. If I screwed up and got the right size then the style, color, cut, flavor, ambiance, nuance, weight, season, motive, or some god awful thing would just be wrong. She never takes jewelry back.

My husband just either asks or looks at my clothing size <shrug> pretty simple really, I do the same when I buy him clothes.
By the way, my husband has excellent taste in women's clothing  for me, and my girls. Personally speaking, I'd rather get a household appliance for a gift no matter the occasion, specially if it's something I asked for! That's how I got my mouse sander :) elliptical and flat screen monitor etc. Beats getting some useless item. -------------- Damselfly Quit being a sheep, they only get led to slaughter |

The gift cert might work but then she might think I just didn't want to shop for her. Size to big she'll think I'm calling her fat, size to small will think I want her to lose wieght, Jewelry might work but I bought her a nice ring when I was in Hawaii and she asked me what I had done.
Guess it will have to be a power tool (saw, drill or sander) |
