There are several exercises that I perform which require extra weights to be added in order for me to not have to do a billion reps. Duh you are saying, that is the whole idea right? Well, the problem is that these exercises are the ones where extra weight is hard to add. For example:

Standing calf raises - I have a block of wood on the floor, I stand on the block, grab a lower cable bar (with 280lbs), then have 40lbs worth of weight shoved in my cargo shorts somehow. How can I add more weight to 'myself'? If I add more weight to my poor cable machine its going to snap. It only came with a 160lb stack that I add up to 120 more lbs to!!! I'm doing well over 60 reps each set.. takes forever, I rather add weight and do fewer reps.

Reverse calf raises - I use less weight here but I will reach a limit soon. I hold 120lbs worth of dumbbells, and 40lbs stuffed in the paints. I guess I could start holding 70lbs dumbbells, that will work out my grip as well.

Parallel bar dips - I chain 90lbs around my waist, and stuff my paints with 40lbs of weights.. small dumbbells in the pockets, small plates in other pockets. Needless to say the 90lbs chained to my waist hurts like a ... well, a lot. I guess better pads around the chain would help but I am hoping someone around here has a better way.

Overhead cable crunches - I have 130lbs on the stack, I have to do all sorts of horrible things to keep me from lifting myself off the ground. No way it would work the way I see it being done in examples, you have to hold yourself down somehow.

Behind back dips - I either chain 100lbs to my waist and rest it on my lap (crushes my knees) or I use an ez-curl bar and lay that across my lap. Neither work that great, is there a better way?

Lying leg lifts - I take 90lbs of plates, loop a chain around it, and then loop it around the soles of my feet. It works except for startup and finish. My knees really take a crushing from it.

I know there are more that I am forgetting right now as well. Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't have a solution but I had to post to say that if nothing else you're innovative. You're a prime candidate for a gym membership. :)

Get a dip belt, its a belt that you wear similar to a weightlifting belt, but its used for loading.
As for calf raises, do them with a barbell and a 2*4.
Also, a solution for dips and other exercises, would be to buy a weighted vest. Elitefts.com will have them. They go as heavy as 100lbs, and I believe they can get you one heavier if you need one.
Try the leg lifts hanging. It will substantially reduce the amount of weight you can use.
The weighted vests are an excellent investment for your particular problem. However, it is an excellent problem to have.

Yes I realize my shins are bleeding. And its called a deadlift. Any other questions???

If you smoke or don’t wear your seatbelt, please don’t tell me the deadlift is dangerous.

Thanks for the ideas! I will check out the dip belts as they seem pretty reasonable. Any experience with 100lbs on them?
The vests would be awesome but its almost $400 for 100lbs! Wish they made one empty or one that could hold the plates I already have. :(

That might be something to look into.
I have loaded my dip belt up with 85lbs to do pull ups with it. Never had a problem, though I have heard of problems @ 75lbs with others. Get it from elitefts and it will be high quality.
I'm sure you could find xvests that are loadable. Just look around. I was just throwing out ideas, and thought that would be a great idea. I'm sure you could find them cheaper or loadable. Let me know how it goes.

I got the dip belt you recommended, loaded it with 90lbs just to test it out and it feels like a damn massage compared to the hell it was to use a chain. I think I can check that problem off as 'solved'! Thanks!

Lol. Glad I could help. I love the dip belts. They are a lifesaver. I use them for dips, pull ups, and for holding myself on the ground when doing heavy standing cable crunches. They are great.

Swarm - what kind of help are you offering? I recall you offered a severe face beating to one of our members. I'll pass on that thank you. lol

Vadwear - see, that help is more my speed... I'm still not sure where swarm was going with his 'help'.

Wrestler - you are always a huge help, your advice is truly appreciated.

Update: Loaded the belt with 150lbs today for some sissy squats, still works just fine!

One item - it's beyond me why the last link (that connects to the D-ring of the belt) on one of the sides has sharpened points. It is not always a problem but it snagged my warm ups which forced me to practice my sewing skills..

Nyxtikal - I checked ebay when I was looking around, at the time the vests were either loaded and shipping was going to kill me or I would have to find special weights locally. I'll check again when/if I start looking again. Thx for the tip!

Do you mean belt squats? Sissy squats are more a bodyweight exercise that I couldnt see adding external resistance.
150lbs... Thats awesome. I have heard of belts breaking at as low as 75. Did you get it from elitefts.com like I recommended? I love mine. I know if that ever feels uncomfortable though, and I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, but ironmind sells a belt for belt squats, that apparently holds a couple hundred comfortably.

Humm... I perform sissy squats just like shown here on FT, however I am wearing the dip belt. Yup, it's the one you recommended. I just tried to view ironmind but seems their server is getting errors...

Ack, I actually woke up in the middle of the night realizing that my statement above was false. I was doing sissy squats NOT as shown here at FT: http://www.freetrainers.com/FT/jsp/pro/ExerciseDescription.jsp?e_n=Sissy_Squats
but more like this (not putting back on ground!): http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/exercise2/sissy_squats.htm

I remember now I had to find another way to do them because I did not have the machine shown in the FT pics. Does that resemble the belt squats you were thinking of?
