Unfortuanately, I have somewhat small hands and hence it takes a lot more effort for a strong grip. I have no problems except for a few execises. I use chalk and that has helped, but i was wondering if anyone can give me any exercises to strenghten my grip. For example, I have been limited by my shoulder shrugs because, although the motion isnt the problem, keeping the dumbells or barbell in my hand is. Help please!!!

You can try wrist straps to keep the weights from falling. To strengthen your grip, you can use a small ball (say a tennis ball) and squeeze it during the day. This also works part of your forearms. And speaking of forearms, do some forearm exercises, too, if you don't already.
Good luck...

goto ironmind.com. they are a strength athlete site, and one of the things they specialize in is grip training (since it doesnt matter how strong u r if u cant hold onto the weight...LOL).
hope that helps.........

Throw some weight on the bar like you are about to perform some shrugs. Then instead of shrugs, just lift and hold the bar. Let your hands do the work. That's it. Keep increasing the weight and in due time you should have some good grip strength. You can also try this website and check out the grippers: http://www.heavysports.com/powershop/grippers.html
Best of luck to you!
