I would assume its like a negative.. where you focus on the 'negative' part of the motion.. or for a crunch the part where you are lowering your torso back to the ground.. just kind of crunch up and at the top of the crunch go very slow lowering yourself to the ground... if thats it.. I rarely include negatives... so i'm not totally sure...

Oh yes fireloard, you got it all right. AND working that way is ten times more effective as well....... Instead of doing 50 crunches fast now you'll only be able to do 15!!!

Well I guess I lied because sometimes I do go slow but I don't focus on going down only I try to go slow going up too.. I try to mix things up doing the ft ab workout 2 times a week.. then a 3rd workout in the middle of the week that is just a mix of things that I want to throw in.. usually low rep (about 10 and 2 sets) exercises that aren't covered for that week in my ft prgram.. and about 2 exercises per area (upper/lower/oblique) so my ab workout goes something like ->

mon - abs
wed - abs
fri - abs

and sometimes I push it around if their sore from a previous workout... Sometimes if I feel that I went the whole week without getting sore around my abs I'll do my normal 2 workouts per area (upper/lower/oblique) in the morning as ft describes then throw in 2 more per area (different exercises though) at the end of the day... but I try to rarely do that in fear of overtraining... most all exercises I stick to 10-15 reps and try to move slow.. if they aren't working then I try to remember to move SLOWER next time... that and mixing in various kinds ab workouts...
this site has some ->

I can't say i've even tried all of those but I tried some and didn't like them or they just felt like they weren't working.. one I did find that really hit my obliques though was the "knee to side" crunch ->

Don't forgot to look at my weight.. i'm a really small person and have a naturally low bf%.. so you could have a six pack but if your not adjusting your diet to slim down your probably not going to see it anytime soon... Some/most of what I said here probaby isn't the 'best' way to go about getting abs.. I just adjusted and played with things until I found what I wanted (which I don't like since I don't consider it a full six yet) and some things to 'maintain' what I have already... You could consider other good workouts for getting abs... like the ft 12 week ab program.. I went through this once a while ago and might also be something that contributed to the way my abs currently look.. its a blast for sure...

-whew.. long post
