I'm starting a 5 day course tomorrow. Best way to describe it would be similar to the riot squad in the police. It's going to be very demanding physically and mentally. I've got overalls (very sexy!)over which I'll be wearing protective padding for my joints, shins and forearms, my stab proof vest, gloves, fire resistant balaclava and protective helmet. Together with heavy duty steel protective boots carrying a protective shield and they want us to run in this. The strength stuff I should be able to carry but the running concerns me. It's not like we're doing long distances - short stuff, not fast paced but due to the change in weather here I'm worried my asthma might flare up slightly . . . cold mornings are not the best. Hopefully it shouldn't be too bad, when I've been running I've managed to run through it and then it's fine. Just the usual pre-course nerves. It doesn't help that I've wanted to do this stuff since I joined. Oh well, I'm sure time will fly - as long as I hang in for the first hour it'll be fine. I just worry to much sometimes. Anyway, just wanted to blurt this stuff out.

Well my first day of the public order course went well. In fact, a lot better than I expected. I guess I just got so nervous and worked up about it that it freaked me out. Anyway absolutely awesome day - got stuck right in and really enjoyed it. I'll be having an early night tonight cos it took a lot out but I'll be even more raring to go tomorrow.
cheers guys

Well just a quick update. Survived the course and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it - controlled anger, it's what I was put on this earth to do! Anyway, a lot of the other guys who had more service said it was the best course they had ever been on. Once I get updated on our records I'm ready to rock n roll. I'm a happy puppy now!

There used to be a police show (based on true stories) called "Adam-12". Every time the sipatcher would call for a car, she would say that. Any how, this show ran in the 60's. When there was no satelite dishes and no cable! I'm a geezer!
