Somthing latly thats just been pissing me off. That for some reason, its never "their" fault.
Parents blame marlyn manson, and violant cartoons for killings in school. Parents blame playstation/x box games saying they are too violant. And cause the brain to reprograme itself, and make people serial killers. sex on tv makes kids go out and have sex.....which causes stds, teen pregnancy etc. Cool beer and cigerate comercials, attract kids to do this stuff. People point the finger at fast food restaurants for making them fat or over weight. I say all this is bull shit, people will point a finger at anyone but themselves. I listen to marlyn manson, rap......and i don't have the urge to kill somone? How come I havn't? I grew up watch tennage mutant ninja turtles, GI joe, hell even some power rangers later in life. I grew up playing mario brothers.....then enevtually mortal kombat and other violant games. One of my favorite movies growing up was terminator 1 and 2......which had violance! I used to sneak and stay up and watch cinamax( guys knwo what I mean) Snuck and looked through my firends dads playboys........do i have an std or gottem somone pregnaunt? no no no Why havn't I? because its not video games, not sex on tv......I think it smore parents who should point the fingers at them selves. Seems to me everyone whats to blame somone else but themselves..............sorry just alot of crap on tv latly guys so just had to see if anyone else saw this is a problem? -------------- " The only true eye, is your minds eye"- plato |

indeed Andrew....that's a huge problem in our society....taking responsibility for one's faliures is very very difficult....sometimes people trully don't realize how their actions caused certain outcomes....
McDonalds does what the public demands...if everyone wanted healthy foods....it would provide them in order to maintain their market share....no one forces people to come and eat there... | |

I was reading an article in a magazine this morning that was along the same line about the Burger King introducing new high calorie High fat items.... they did a market study and 49% of there business comes from people who WANT high fat high calorie items, while only 2% want healthy selections, and the rest just dont care or don't eat at burger king regularly. This is why burger king continues to make these items, because they want to give the customer what they want, because if they didn't, they would go out of business. If everyone wanted healthy foods, they would switch to healthy foods. This is what the CEO himself said, and he is a health nut! He claims to never eat in a fast food himself, is an avid skier, mountain climber/biker, eats clean, you get the picture.
So I agree whole heartedly. People stop being lazy! -------------- :Hard work equals great results!: |

Kids who do that stuff already have the potential. It's just that watching that stuff initiates their actions a lot earlier than normal.
That's always been my opinion. |

By the way. My number one reason for it all is lack of discipline. Every since physical discipline was 'claimed' as causing kids into psycho nuts and should be stopped... more rebellious kids appeared. Hmm...

Don't get me started on this one, it's one of my favourite topics........
People don't seem to realise that until they start taking responsibility for their own actions, nothing will change - they'll stay fat, their kids will misbehave, etc, etc. I find the "something must be done" brigade so frustrating. |

Andrew - I adore you.
Princess - I with you re: "don't get me started on this one" The lack of responsibility these days drives me NUTS! Amazing when we were little there was no such thing as ADD. You get a child who is poorly parented who acts out inapropriately due to lack of proper discipline and social skills and what do you get? The next generation of "it's not my fault my kid went bad" parents! Now - don't get me wrong - I do believe there are kids with exceptional energy levels but 99.9% ofthe time there are other factors that parents will prefer to deny. I tell ya - when I was bad I KNEW what I was risking. A good bare hand spanking never damaged anyone. Beating you children is wrong, spanking them is not beating. Yup - the lack of ownership for certain problems drives me CRAZY! I'm thinking about starting a family. How do I protect my child from those ones? I know there are a multitude of factors involved in trying to aford the process of of child-rearing these days, but maybe teens should be more educated and parents should be taking a more pro-active role in that education. There were definitely advantages for children with stay-at-home moms who realized the seriousness of having a child, who accepted that responsibility and who took the time to raise their kids right. Being a stay-at-home parent does not mean you spend all day with your butt planted on the couch watching Dr. Phil and soaps all day while yelling at your kid(s) to stop misbehaving because "monny is busy"! Get off the soap box, Erika... |

I got 2 kids so I can say from experience raising kids ain't no piece of cake. But I do agree with ya 100%...my children are my responsibility.
However I will make the argument that we need to be holding our fellow man accountable as well. From our neighbors, to our schools, to our justice system. You got parents sueing McDonalds because their child gets fat(we are the jury), you got teachers demanding that their pay not be based on test scores and performance(we pay the paychecks), you got judges that believe it's their job to make up the law rather then interpret it(we vote the representatives into office that appoint the judges). It's gotten out of control in recent years. Maybe I take more responsibility on myself then I need to...but that's how I see it. |

why would anyone want to choose bad food over good? anyways i think another factor is that parents dont actually care who their kids are hanging out with. i mean i was reading some where that this mom let her son and his stoned friends into the house with out a second thought. its a sad story but it ends up her son got shot and now she is mad at the gun company! however i also think that people need to blame the damn kids too! there are those who are raised the best they can be and they still screw stuff up. guess we just all agree that everybody is responsible for themselves. and the whole add thing..everyone has a little bit of it in them. and yeah there is a whole lot more to say on the subject too (do we even dare mention school?)but at least we are not alone :)

I think for the most part the problem is money.....peopel want it......and if they have to work 60hours a week, so they can drive the bmw.......they will. However kids suffer.
Stump........the juries are picked nowadays.......the attournies are good at "picking" a winning jury.....Like they tried to get moms and dads for the michael jackson jury......why? Single people wouldn't be as "moved" by whats happening. Saem with the fast food suits. IF they get moderatly over weight people, in the jury they will side witht he "victim", if they picked skinny, or people "in shape" they will be like no one forced them to eat it. Juries are picked, potilicans are picked by us.....but we are influced by media.....which is influenced by politics.....which is influnced by MONEY. -------------- " The only true eye, is your minds eye"- plato |

My daughter started freaking out scared when the t.v. station aired a trailor for the movie "House of Wax" during a 3P.M. CARTOON show that I let my children watch.
And the other day I am listening to the t.v.'s 6 pm news while cooking dinner. I walk into the living room to find my 2 yr old son staring- mouth agape- at Paris Hilton f**king a sponge during a commercial for hamburgers..... I feel my family is not safe for all the dedicated parenting in the world on my part...so maybe watchdog groups have earned their place in the US..atleast untill "public" anything becomes safe again for the general public |

Great post Andrew, I can't agree with you anymore than I already do. One thing I always found funny, was a guy sued Mcdonalds for their fries making him fat (he was 600+ lbs.). Supposedly he blaimed them that the seasoning they put in the fries were addicting and that's why he was overweight. Amazingly enough, he won the case and recieved $6 million from Mcdonalds. What I don't understand, is how did Mcdonalds physically force him to put those fries down?? People put blame on others for why their fat, that's really sad. The judge and jury of that case should be shot, lol obviously they aren't the brightest people on the planet anyways. But I agree with menace, accepting responsibility for one's actions is very hard at times, people really don't want to have to do it. So what do they do, they blame it on people, restaurants, television, computers, etc. Anything that they can make it have sense that it would be it's fault and not their's.
