Hi Everyone,

I'm new to ft. I have a six month old son and have just turned 36. It's about time I got off my butt and lost some weight. I've just joined a gym and will be starting a new career training course next month, so I need all the encouragement I can get. My goal is to go from my current size 8 to a size 4. My biggest hurdle is beer. I'm Irish so that one might be hard to overcome. It's in the genes as they say. I'm tough though so I know I can do this.

I'm looking forward to being part of this community. Nice to meet you all.

Hi, I feel your pain. Congrats on your newborn, well, not newborn anymore... I still have the extra belly from my 2 c-sections and my oldest is 7 years old! I have not tried that hard in the past to get rid of it but it is now at the disgusting mark. I cannot even look at myself in the mirror naked! I tried on summer clothes today and just hung them back and went home. Very depressing. If you are currently a size 8, which I would kill for, how much are you looking to lose? I am almost a 16 and need to get back to my size 8/10. Good luck and drop me a line whenever! I am trying to get motivated b/c I will not even look at bathing suits now. We are currently in Naples, Italy and there are lots of places to visit during the summer but I guess I will have a farmer's tan b/c the swim suit is a big NO-NO at the moment!

Hi Froglover,

I went into Old Navy a couple of weeks ago and like you, was disgusted. Fitting rooms are not the place to go to feel good about yourself. I hate them. Even some of the size 8 shorts there didn't fit, so I decided then to do something about this. I'm 36 and I need to do something now. I don't want to be one of those people who complain about my size and do nothing, like my step-daughter. I joined a gym and when I got my body fat percentage I was horrified. I'm 5ft 3 and there's no way it should be 34%. Both my parents died of anyuerisms, within 18 months of each other and I don't want to go the same way.

I loved how I looked when I was breastfeeding, I went from 169lbs to 133lbs. The problem was I wasn't eating so from the neck up I didn't look so good. But I liked being at that weight so that's what I'm aiming for. I don't think I need to lose any more than 10 or 15 lbs. I need to really tone up though. Thighs and belly for sure.

Are you from USA? Is your Hubby in the Navy? Lucky you being in Naples. My Hubby retired after 30 years in the Navy, we moved from Hawaii last April. Don't miss it at all.

I think the best thing to do is walk. There's a cardio cinema in my gym which is awesome, you don't see 30 minutes go by. I've vowed to drink 12 cups of water a day too, started yesterday. I filled a jug up by measuring it out and drank, drank, drank. And peed, peed, peed too. LOL.

I like my beer and I'm not giving that up. On the weekends only though 'til I get some of this off. Do you get BBC America over there, or even BBC? There's a show on there called "You are what you eat". I've been having some of the symptoms they talk about, like headaches, fatigue. I have been eating alot of fast food etc so that's what's caused it I expect. Hence the water and salads this week.

Let me know how you get on Froglover, thanks for replying to my post.

Caio!!!

:dumbbell:

Hello - you two! I am also a new mom (baby Eryn is almost 9 mos. old). I'll be turning 40 later this year and I, too, am determined to get off my butt and get into shape. I'm currently at my pre-preg. weight of 168 lbs. but since the baby my body has morphed into something I don't recognize anymore. I'm a size 14 and would be thrilled at getting down to an 8/10 again. I'm glad to have found a couple of others in the same boat!
