I completely agree with the new food pyramid. It's basically a low glycemic diet with exercise.

I checked out the food pyramid and it does not appear to be the USDA food pyramid, but a version of the pyramid put together by an individual to help sell a book. I could be wrong and I'm open to that possibility. Check out this link which I got from fsdsk's link.

I went to the USDA website and it looks like they have not published the new pyramid yet.

The new p[yramid is still in the works and is expected to be rolled out in the next year or so. There has been much talk for several years about the new pyramid - this is what they have so far, expect more changes down the road.

The food pyramid in your link was put together by a man named Walter Willet. He is affiliated with the Harvard School of Public Health, not the USDA. I'm not trying to be argumentative but that pyramid is HIS vision, not the USDA's. He wrote a book extoling the virtues of HIS ideas regarding nutrition. Even the USDA website isn't showing a proposed protype for public viewing or it would be on their website. I'm telling you this is just some guy trying to sell you his version and his book.

Here is what Dr. Willett has to say about how he treats his own body:

What do you typically eat in any given day?

"For breakfast, I’ll usually have something like cooked whole grains with fruit. Lunch may be leftover grains from breakfast as part of a salad, with vegetables, and nuts. Dinner is usually salad or vegetables with tofu, chicken or fish. In the back of the book, Maureen Callahan has created recipes for healthy meals that are also interesting and enjoyable."

Looks like too few calories, too little protein, too little food, period. This guy is on a starvation diet that couldn't keep ME alive and healthy, let alone a grown man. Just my opinion...

No arguments here, we have been hearing tons about the new pyramid and this popped up as a possibility and I thought I'd share. My dieticians have had several come across thier desks the last year and a half, this seems to be the most reasonable far.
