Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site. So far it looks really good. Lots of good workout info with pics and descriptions, and message boards are great! :) I'm hoping to find some help with my goals, which seem to be pretty different from most:

I'm interested in being fit for life. Achieving fitness in a healthy manner. I know it sounds weird, but the whole "I want to be buff in 3 weeks" outlook that some people have doesn't sound healthy. I don't care much about LOOKING fit. I'm not going to enter into any competitions. I'm not trying to pick up women. Etc etc.

I've done a bit of searching on this site, and so far haven't found any fitness plans or posts dedicated to this type of outlook. Any ideas?

(A bit about myself: I'm healthy, 6' 195lbs. I don't smoke, hardly drink -- maybe 1 drink per MONTH average, but unfortunately have a severe desk job and many other sedentary activites. In terms of a weight goal I'd like to eventually stabilize at around 185lbs ... even though that calculates out to an "overweight" BMI.)

I look forward to getting to know many of you over the coming days/weeks/months. Thanks, and good luck!

Welcome to FT, chkrvrty. You've come to the right place, since overall most people on this site advocate lifelong changes for health and well-being. If you're interested in lifting weights but not becoming muscular, you might want to try a progressive gains program here on FT. Your diet will dictate how much muscle you gain, so if you want you'll gain a little bit of muscle and lean out. For any other info, check the message boards and post your Qs. There's lots of people willing to help and offer great advice. Good luck!

oh....and do some searches on fitBuddy at the bottom of the screen for various topics. I can read for hours by doing searches on there.

Hey thanks all! I'm gonna try to jump right in and try the 8-wk progressive gains program. And also thinking of adding a 12-wk abs program to that. And I've also been doing cardio (elliptical 3x/wk), and want to continue that as well. I hope it won't be too much; I've been working out pretty regularly for a few months, though I've never done a fixed program like this.

Thanks again -- this really helps my motivation!
