Hey,
I am new at this, I have been working really hard and I have lost 60 pounds. I have not been able to loose any more. I want to join the Canadian Forces and i have to learn how to do pushups. I need help to make myself stronger to do these. I also need to learn to run longer. Anyways I would appreciate any help.

first off, congrats on loosing the 60lbs that's quite an accomplishment. I think your smart to use fitness to work on those remaining pounds and to tighten up your physique.

To learn to run, set a distance and start by running for 3min (or as long as you can take) and then walk for 5 min. Alternate this until you reach the set distance (5km is a good distance). Do this 3X/week and each week increase your running time, so week 2, run for 5min and walk for 3 min. Work up to running 10 min and walking 1min. Eventually you can just drop the 1min walk and voila, you've run your first 5km. It is tough and you have to mentally force yourself to continue the run, but it really is a mind game.

To learn how to do pushups, just start with doing them from your knees and slowly build up your indurance until you can do 3 sets of 12 pushups. Then start adding in full pushups. You simply have to build up your strength. Also, try one of the free programs from this site and start some resistance training...you'll be amazed at what you can do.

Good luck with the CF and welcome to FT. (My dad was a fighter pilot with the CF years ago!)

Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.

Congrats on loosing the 60lbs, running, thats not fun... lol

but it helped me lost 80+lbs so here goes my advice:

Dont stop running... you can go really slow if u are really tired but dont stop, you have to get it into your mind not to stop,

Increase your time, its better to run for a set number of minutes than to run a certain distance, or thats what i was told,

Increase your speed, ide suggest to do some sprint workouts maybe 2x a week, i did this for about 3 months and my mile time went from about 7.30 to 5.30 so it worked lol

if u do run, and get blisters might want to get running socks, or new shoes, i put on two pairs of socks so there is less friction with my foot and the shoe, and it has helped me so far.

Good luck and welcome to FT, good luck with the Canadian Forces too.
