Hey everyone, Im new to the site. A little about myself... I have been in athletics all my life. Football, basketball, and track in highschool; and football in college. Im used to sport specific strength and power training. After being out for a few years Ive gotten soft and am trying to get on a good program to cut body fat and gain stregth. My coworkers are trying to convince me to join their weight lifting team. Id compete in bench press, squats, and deadlift. Any help or assistance would be much appreciated, glad to be here.

My best piece of advice is to walk before you run. Make sure you're doing the lifts with proper form, instead of the most weight you can('t) handle. There isn't a substitute for a solid foundation.

Return, thanks for the advice. I think too often there is a focus on weight at the cost of technique. I have a pretty solid foundation, as I have been weight training 10 years (8 of those being sport specific). I am however lacking in developing a comprehensive training plan for my "post athletic career".
