Hi! I'm new to these boards and have never seen them. I have however been doing some research on here since about 9 this morning (on and off).
I am a 29 y/o stay at home mother of two and plan on going to school when my youngest starts next June. I would love to be a personal trainer/nutritionist, but have to get in shape first. I am at a healthy 135lbs. at 5'6" and
12 years ago I lost about 100lbs. and have thankfully kept it off through the years and having two children.
Since I have been staying at home with my children, I would say that I am slightly active but tend to be more of a storyteller and swimming fanatic with my kids.
I do have a treadmill that has been broken up until last week. I also have a Weider corner home gym and a stabitiy ball with many pilates dvd's. So, I should be doing something, but I get so tired and don't want to do anything really. Sorry excuse, but I am being honest.
Feb. of this year I did some research of fasting with water only. I do it on and off (about once a month) for spiritual and religous reasons and love the way I feel during and after. My fasts only last for 3-5 days and would love to gradually get upto 10 days of water only eventually.
Fasting is the only way that I have found to actually drop more than a pound when I need to in the last 5 years.

I do however have a question if I can shut up long enough to ask it. :)

When a person doesn't workout for about a year and then decides to start. Does that person tend to gain weight and I mean thicker too, at first?
I have been steadily working out for the last 3 days (not many) but feel so much bigger. My hips are already big, but they have gained an inch in just a couple of days.
Normally when this happens I give up because I don't want them any bigger than they already are.
Please shed some light on this subject.
I have researched it, but came up empty.

Thank you in advance,
txnmom.

Well hi txnmom!!First a big congrats on losing 100 lbs!!asfar as the feeling of weight gain..I would wager a guess that you are retaining water..is it possible you are not taking in enough water to support your new activity?Without enough fluid your body will hold all that water...Welcome to FT!!:)

Much thanks to you. I thought it might be water weight but wasn't at all sure of it.

I appreciate your help.
Ugh, I don't like water, but will drink more for this. :)
Thanks again,
txnmom

you need to drink water, I consume approx 170 ounces of water a day, at first it is overwhelming to think about drinking that much, but Iworked up to this much, and now it just comes naturally.

Thank you all so much for your quick and pleasant replies.
I will definately start drinking more water.
Today I have had approx. 60 oz. of water after the first reply. More tomorrow.

Sabrina,
Good to meet you. When I was 18 I realized I needed to lose weight. Everyone told me, but I was hard headed and didn't listen. My mother always told me that I was big boned. Boy was she wrong and 90% of the time the people who think they are, really aren't. She just didn't want to make me feel bad I think. Anyways, it was then where I lost 100lbs. on the nose and then it took me about 1o years to lose 5 more. Really weird, but I accomplished it. I know you can too. I have read many things on this site and know that there are many wonderful people here who can get you through this. You are definately not alone. It's poeple like you and I who give me the many reasons to become a personal trainer/ nutritionist.
Hang in there sister, we'll pull through.
Regards,
txnmom

So many people have been told they are 'big boned' that they don't even know what the term means. The funny thing is, people who are actually big boned...or have a large frame, can weigh the same as someone who is small boned (small frame) but will actually be leaner. I have a small frame which means I can't get away with weighing as much as someone with a larger frame. So if you are truly 'big boned', that could be good thing and mean you actually look smaller for your weight.

Here's one that I have never been able to get over since I have lost weight.

"Wow, it's been ages since I've seen you. You're actually pretty now."

What the..

Can people actually be that cruel? No, don't even go there.
It makes me laugh now because I get compilments from people who compare me to a more classier Anna Nicole Smith, without the many breast implants. :)
