First off, I would like to thank whoever is in charge of this website. It is a GREAT idea for people who want to get into shape and become healthier. Kudos. Secondly, I am 19 years old, about to turn 20 on the 26th. Now my high school career consisted of playing basketball. I'm a short guy, only about 5'8" and NOW i weigh 156lbs. Which is down from almost 190 on graduation day in June 2005. Now, I don't have any pictures of myself to show anyone, but I wouldn't say that I'm overweight, but I'm definitely out of shape. I am looking to start getting serious about getting myself into better shape. Now, I'm not sure on exactly how to begin with this. My idea is to get up at the crack of dawn and go for a run, theres also 81 stairs right next to my house, thought about running those a few times too. I have a Weider Weightbench also, which I plan to use more often. I'm not sure on any routines, or how long I should run for or anything, since I used to just lift weights to gain muscle without any plan or routine. Can anyone help me out with a Routine? Also with a proper diet as well? And my last question is I have a HUGE jar of "Premium Whey Protein Powder" manufactured my Body Fortress, 4G Net Cards, 20G Protein. I haven't begun using it just yet, but has anyone else used it or have any recommendations with it? Thanks in advance and I hope to be communicating with you all soon!

Hey, you have the right idea, some extra cardio will help you get back into shape. Also, if you love basketball, keep it up, an intense game of basketball is a great form of exercise with many benefits. Many people believe in taking a protein supplement, however there are also many people out there who feel it is useless. Taking the protein it completely up to you, there is no harm from taking it. I think it is great if you diet is low in protein. As for diet and a workout routine, I will leave that up to one of the guys to answer that for you...they would probably have better advise.
Good luck!

be sure to do your research here on the site and use the "Search FitBuddy" icon below for certain subjects you are looking to find more information on, I can assure you the questions have been asked before and there is a lot of sound advice on here. Read as many of the thumbtack threads in each forum as you can, they have a wealth of information. Finally, it will be of great benefit for you to implement one of the free exercise programs on here to start out if you need structure. Just click on the "Exercise Program" icon at the top of this page and it will get you started. Be realistic in what you can honestly do and you will not set yourself up to fail, this meaning when it is asking what exercise equipment you have available, make sure it is equipment you have available today and not something in the near future. Also when it asks how many days a week you can work out, make sure you have 5 days that you can discipline yourself to work out if that is what you put. For nutrition, there are some excellent threads in the "Nutrition" forum for weight loss diets, etc. Good luck and let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.

My initial suggestions(having trained many folks that get the "urge" for fitness), don't bite off more than you can chew. In other words, in the beginning when you are in this mode you want to do EVERYTHING. Start out easy, take some steps, do a bit of cardio. Experience with clients is that in their initial enthusiasm, they do too much and can't sustain it and fairly quickly dissapear back into their old habits. Take it slow, you will do better in the long run.
