Hey I am a new member here. My biggest question about starting an exercise program is when is the best time to eat, how long before or after I exercise? I am just doing cardio right now because I seriously just started back up yesterday, and I gotta get my body used to working out again.

Welcome to FT! I always drink a protein shake (about 8 oz)about 30 minutes before excercising and another one in the locker room immediately after excercising. If you do not feed your body protein with your excercise you will have difficulty building lean mass. You body will get the energy form three sources. First, it will utilize what is currently in your digestive system, second it will consume protein from your muscles and lastly it will start to convert fat for energy. Thye stronger your muscles are the more calories you will burn between excercise days. Try to eat smaller portions more frequently throught the day. The goal would be 6 meals a day. That will keep your metabolisim up and cause the fat to be slowly burned off.
Hope that helps.

It's best to eat 2hrs before or have a small snack about 1hr before.
