Hello all. Would like to introduce myself. My name is Blake and I have successfully made a healthy 180 about a year ago. It all started when I decided to quit smoking to prepare myself for a snowboarding trip. When I actually hit the slopes I realized it wasn't just the smoking that I needed to change but everything about me that was out of shape. I was 230lbs. (I am 5'9") and had a diet that was consistent of junk food and what ever I could get for cheep being a college student; Lots of Raman. After the torcher of a snowboarding session I swore I would make changes to my health so that the mountain wouldn't kick my ass the next time I went. I started slowly adjusting my eating habbits and lost my first 15 lbs. Once I saw those pounds drop I started working out that summer. Almost a year ago since I stopped smoking and I have lost 53 lbs. Since accomplishing this I have become somewhat of a health nut. I now get exactly 8 hours of sleep every night so that I can hit up the gym first thing in the morning. I came to this site to help fine tune lots of things I have learned. As many of you may know there are difference in views on certain little things. This bothers me because I hate to do something thinking I’m doing it right just to find out that is totally wrong. I did a search on the few questions I had but still found different answers. Figured I would ask them again; however, would also like to know the science behind the question. Knowing this helps me understand why things work they way they work and helps me learn. One question is: Should I eat in the morning before I hit the gym? Some say yes some say no. What I do now is hit the gym first thing in the morning and drink a protein shake right when I get back. Also, Should I eat right when I get back from a work out? Have heard different stands on this just as the breakfast thing. I have a few other questions, of coarse, but I haven't looked these up yet. Thanks all in charge for the site, and I’m looking forward to being a part of this community.

congrats on you changes to your life style

my 2p never exercise on an empty belly, you are scarf icing your muscles,
You will burn tons of calories but a lot will come from your muscle tissue as well as fat stores.
have your shake with protein and carbs after you workout and then eat about an hour later.

I am sure other will have more advise, post your Q in the relevant part of the board and fill out your profile as well
easier to help
good luck
