I am a 31 year old mother of two. I am 5'4 and 130 lbs. I just began working out 2 weeks ago. I do 25-30 minutes on the elliptical machine 5 days a week. I also have been walking a 1/2 a mile to a mile 5 days a week. In the weight dept. I have been doing three sets of 15 reps on the ab, thigh and gluteus machines. I have also done some bicep and tricep workouts. If I keep up this routine 5 days a week will I see weight loss and toning or should I change my routine? Thanks! ~tmkus~

Sounds like a good foundational fitness routine. You will probably want to add to your lifting routine as you progress. Ideally you want to strengthen all of your major muscle groups. This will help speed up your metabolism. The key to decreasing bodyfat (and that is what you want) will be your diet. Use the fit buddy at the bottom of the screen to find information about that. Familiarize yourself with some of the principles of diet and ask any pertinate questions. Without a good diet plan your efforts will be less than you hope for. Good Luck and welcome. BTW help us out by filling out your profile. That is invaluable to all who will be answering your questions.

I eat relatively well but if I follow the guidelines that they suggest for me through the nutritional plan and stay on the routine I have been on, about how long will it be before I notice a change in my body?

Noticeable results can usually be seen in 4-6 weeks. Sometimes sooner. Go and buy you a camera and take some snapshots from various angles (get your hubby to help). In a week or two take some more, and so forth. Use these as a comparison. This is a good way to judge your progress. Also, don't go by the scale as you will be building muscle if you are strength training. Muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less space. Many here feel that the nutritional requirements are somewhat high so you may want to adjust the numbers. Just eat good foods like those mentioned on the boards, be consistent with your exercise, and be patient. You'll see the results soon.
