Hi everyone, I'm new so please excuse my ignorance on the subject. :)
I have been reading some of the threads and have seen that it is not wise to do cardio before weight training or even in the same session.
I just joined the gym a few weeks ago and have been doing 45 minutes on the treadmill (random inclines, 3.5mph) and lower and upper body weight training. On the days I don't do weights, I do cardio and abs.
I want to be lean and toned, not bulky so would this information (no cardio before weights) be of use to me or is it for those who want to gain mass?
I am still just trying to put myself on a program. I do follow the weight training schedule on here but I am still trying to navigate the site. Thank you for all of your helP!

It's very difficult for women to get bulky, even if they want to, because of our hormones - so if you follow the training principles on the site you will be just fine.
The problem with doing cardio in the wrong order is that you can end up breaking down muscle to supply the energy for your cardio workouts. This would result in you being LESS "toned" and in the long run having a higher body fat.
If you can split you cardio and weights into different sessions, great, but if you can't, don't worry about it, just do the cardio after. If you are relatively new to exercise it's not so much of a problem, as you should make good progress anyway.
good luck and welcome to FT

Thanks so much. I really appreciate it! Its hard for me to break up my cardio and weights, but I will definitely do it after now. Wonder why the gym 'professionals' don't tell anyone that :)
