Supplements can be a great aid with your health and fitness goals. Combined with the proper exercise and nutritional plan they can be quite effective.

My doctor tells me I cannot take creatine. Reasons being that my family history of heart disease is to great. He said that 99% of the time creatine is safe but in my case the risks outweight the possible benefits. I just wanted to try a 6 week cycle to see how is works, but now i am a little hesitant.

If the doctor says no, then that means no. I thought creatine was present in skeletal muscle only; I was not aware that it affected cardiac muscle. If I were you, I'd listen to the doc. Maybe in a year or so, ask again to get another opinion.

When it comes to the heart, I wouldn't mess around. You're always entitled to a second opinion, but please do what the doc says.

Now I want to be perfectly clear that I am not advising you to go against your doctors orders in any way! However I have studied numerous sources on creatine & ehat I have found is that creating is actually being considered for treating heart disease as it has an effect on improving contractile strength of cardiac muscle. However from practical experience I have found that alot of primary physicians are clueless about fitness & supplementation. Personally I would seek the second opinion of a doctor with a sports medicine background or even a cardiac specialist as creatine may not be just good for your muscles, it could actually be benifitial to your heart!

Damn, you beat me to it pl. Like pl said, most of the doctors out there are not the best resources in terms of supplements. When they know nothing about a supplement, they will simply answer your question by saying not to take it. I would ask his reasoning as to why you can't take and have him provide you with some proof. I bet you that'll throw him off. I have also studied creatine as well, and I have NEVER seen any studies that indicate any heart issues at all. Get another opinion ASAP from a sports related doc.
