take a look at what you are eating. Make sure that you are creating a caloric deficit to lose weight. Try switching the priority to weights first, then cardio afterwards.

============ Quoting from returnofplex: take a look at what you are eating. Make sure that you are creating a caloric deficit to lose weight. Try switching the priority to weights first, then cardio afterwards. ============= My calorie intake is roughly 1300 daily. I eat a lot of fruit, salads,Fish, and the only meat I will eat is chicken. I have tried talking this out with my doctors but they seem to think that there is nothing wrong. |

You will not lose fat easily at 1300 calories a day. You are in starvation mode. If I were you, I would read everything I could about balanced nutrition, BMR, Carbs, Proteins, Fats, insulin reactions, vitamins & minerals. There is so much info on this site about how much to eat and how to eat it at the proper times. I put nutrition and training at about 70/30 ratio. That ought to give you some idea how important nutrition is in your overall outcome of your program. For instance, while fruit is good, there is a time to eat it and a time not to eat it if you are trying to lose weight. If you can afford it, I would find a personal trainer who is not just smart about weight training but really smart about nutrition. Many trainers can show you good form in the gym but then send you home to sabatoge all your efforts with bad nutritional understanding.

Have you been counting your calories with the actual portion sizes in mind? I agree that if you really are only eating 1300, your body is most likely in starvation mode. Keep eating clean, but try bringing it up to 2000 or a little more. Most times if you are active, eating about 10 calories per pound of body weight per day will yield decent weight loss results. You gotta give your body the fuel it needs to shed that weight. This sounds strange, but believe me it's true. I'm 6'1", 215 lbs right now, and I lose more than a pound per week eating 2300 calories a day.

Hi Big. I'm assuming that you've talked to your Dr. about your weight plans and how you are acheiving weight loss? I'm not disagreeing with anyone's advice here, but with your medical issues that you mention on your profile, please be sure that you are doing what you should under Dr. supervision.
Regarding caloric intake, I'm a woman, much smaller than you and never eat less than 1600 calories a day. 1300 is far too little. Congrats on your progress thus far! |

Hi Dave!
I have to tell you something I am not sure that the average person knows that people hear probably do. Doctors really have very little knowledge about nutrition. Most have only a couple classes in eight years of education unless they specialize in something closey related. My chiropractor is a great source of information about healthy eating. Many of the folks here especially the trainers and moderators will be a good source also. I totally agree that 1300kc is too few. Try keeping a log for a few days and analyzing it closely. I think sometimes we have to see things in writing. Finally just don't give up. |

I Agree with everyone here dave, 1300 cals will keep you in starvation mode and do more bad than good for you physically. Do yourself a big favor, hook up with a trainer/nutritionist to set up a clean diet and exercise program, if only to get started and go from there, and remember, drinks lots of water, someone you and my size should be atleast 1-2 gallons a day.. Also look into what they call catabolic foods, or foods that require the body to burn more calories to metabolize the food than the actually food has for calories...... Plenty of protein before and after workouts, fruits in the am and afternoons and veggies at night....
Good luck bro. -------------- How do you feel? That is the question But I forget.. you dont expect an easy answer When something like a soul becomes Initialized and folded up like paper dolls and little notes You cant expect a bit of hope So while youre outside looking in Describing what you see Remember what youre staring at is me. ---------- Get busy living or get busy dying. I dont know a whole lot about nutrition and such, but i think that you shouldve started out with alot more than 1300 calories a day. From your pictures you shouldve started out at atleast 2500 and slowly dropped down your calorie intake. But 1300 is way too low for anyone. Your body has to have energy and i dont think 1300 calories is enough energy for you. Along with bumping up your calorie intake you should maybe change up how many times you eat. Everyone says that you are supposed to eat about 5 small meals throughout the day. I did that for awhile but then i hit a plateau and now i've learned that you have to switch it up. Do the 5 small meals a day thing, then go back to 3 regular sized meals a day. But like i said, im no expert so you should really talk to a nutrition to find out more.
Good Luck! :) |
