Karen, the key to losing weight is your diet, exercise will not be as beneficial if your diet is lacking. What you need to do is eat foods from the "grocery list for healthy eating" which is in the specific diet and nutrition forum. Start keeping track of what you eat, I mean everything, every single thing you eat every day for a couple weeks. Keeping your eating habits fairly consistant here helps. At that point you can start to determine what your maintenance calories are, that's the amount it takes to maintain your current weight. Then start reducing your calories 200-300 a week. You should see a 1-2lb loss every week, that's a healthy amount. If your eating foods from the list and exercising, the loss should be nearly all fat. It also may help in the beginning to get your BF% calculated and keep track of it 6-8weeks. Another good read in the specific diet nd nutrition forum is "diet thread". Good luck and welcome to FT!!! On a side note...take a minute and fill out your profile so we can get to know you better, this is a great community of people.
