Well I'm in charge of RIT Weightlifting now. So now what?
We got a lot of publicity from the strongman competition. And its fun as hell. Theres a competition this summer just outside my home town. Problem is, its in the summer. And, many of our members will have to competete in the open class, where I don't feel all of them are ready for the step up.
A few other options I have are powerlifting (which the team has competeted in before), or olympic weightlifting, although thats something that takes a tad more specialization than I am really looking for. Though it would be fun. Any powerlifting competition will have to be raw, which isn't too much of a problem on the east coast.
I want to find some form of competition where we throw heavy things. Nothing that involves technique so much as just throwing heavy crap. Like kegs for height, hammers for distance, and mailboxes for fun. Just throwing implements.
I think it may be the highland games, although I know in Ireland you're required to take a shot of scotch after each event in something similar. I can't imagine having luck with sponsors while training for something like that. Anyone know what I am talking about?
Any other suggestions? I'm open to ideas and opinions, and your welcome to call me crazy for thinking how fun it would be to launch a watercooler overhead.
