Sometimes, when I stand too long, or bend at the waist, my feet go numb as well. I am about 40 - 50 pounds overweight, and the majority of it is centered around my waist/hip area. My opinion of what happens, is that a nerve or vein is getting pinched or cramped. You might make sure that you are not locking your knees on the elliptical, or if you have the same affliction as me, you might try biking or swimming for cardio instead. Once some of the weight goes away, the numbness may ease. I also recommend seeing your doctor. Your numbness could be a sign of a more serious problem!

Make sure that when you do cardio, you don't lock your knee caps because that can cause a nerve to be pressured and cause you to get your feet numb!! Good Luck.

Before you go to a doctor..check two things...

1. Your shoes! (can't believe no one has mentioned that:) Are they comfortable for doing that kind of exercise? Running shoes might be better than cross trainers for you.

2. Notice next time you do it..are you curling your toes? I have a tendency to do that sometimes and my feet feel numb.

I would recomend that you check these two things and perhaps lower the intensity of your workouts before you go to see a doctor..certainly since this seems to be the only time your feet feel this way. If they feel this way even on days that you don't exercise..then you might want to consult a medical professional.

My shoes are never tight but after around 15-20 mins my feet feel numb too. Simply I take off my shoes (be sure to have clean socks though!! :o) and I can go along for hours!
It works for me, maybe it'll work for you too.
