I normally eat well. The problem occurs (i am in the military), where we need to go to the field , range, deployment, etc.. and i am forced to eat the mre's (meals ready to eat) or the dining facility. The foods are loaded with carbs and when i am in the field, i only eat like once or twice and drink lots of coffee to stay awake... I will loose weight, but as soon as I get home, the weight goes back up. What foods can I pack during an exercise/deployment to substitute when the foods are not that nutritious? (remember we loose the convience of our own kitchen and all those high speed kitchen gadgets!) thanks,

they are probably giving your carbs...for engery......to do all the stuff you do.......carbs are the bodys number one engery source...its easy to break down. I highly doubt thay are giving you "bad for you " food. Concidering you are in the military. I'm pretty sure they don't want body builders out there that require 6 meals a day and 5000 calories lol.
I don't know your goals........but if you need some protein just get some whey powder and keep in baggies and mix with water, or milk if your in the hall......or some met-rx bars......howvever thought proably taste worse tthan the mrps lol.
if yoru weight is going back up when you get home.........your proably eating junk food........or eating to many carbs and not being as active.

Andrew, I have been in the army for over 6 years now (and I am deployed) and Mryanni is right. the food they serve is often bad for you. Loaded with fat and way more carbs than are needed for the average soldier. I have a terrible time keeping my diet clean and end up eating salads with chicken for two meals having grits or oatmeal with boiled eggs for another and tuna and triscuits for another (along with a MRP and a whey PWO)
Mryanni, Cans of tuna and triscuits (as long as you watch the serving size) are good field foods. Other than that, an MRP will help with your calorie needs. And whenever possible use the DFAC instead of MREs, that way you can get good complex carbs and pick your meals a little better.

trail mix is also a good way to get good type of calories, from nuts, raisings, and other dried fruits....you're getting carbs for energy, fiber, and many important vitamins...Also consider taking multivitamin to make up for any nutritional deficiencies that you may have
