My husband is always looking for healthy recipes for me to make and this one turned out great. I made his sandwiches for work today with them and they were a big hit. Much better than that bread we get from the store.
Oat Tortillas 50 g. oatmeal flour (you can buy this flour or grind up this measurement in a coffee grinder or food proccessor) 50 g. oat bran 150 g. egg whites 1 cup water 2 tbsp. CapTri® (MCT Oil) Mix all ingredients together until well blended. Batter will appear thin. Heat 7 or 8 inch nonstick skillet and pour small amount of batter in middle of skillet. Shake slightly to spread batter. When tiny bubbles appear on top, pick up edge with spatula and check for doneness. When light brown, turn over and press down with spatula appears dry and not wet. Takes about 2 minutes on each side. Makes 6-8 tortillas, depending on size of skillet. Great for making sandwiches! -------------- I will lift my own weight someday!!!!! that sounds like a cool replacement, you can take the Masa de Harina out of the mexican, but you can't take the mexican out of the Masa de Harina!!! lol! In other words, I have a hard time giving up or should I say replacing my flour tortillas, oohhh, heated and lightly burned for the singed flavor... oops, had a relapse for a minute there!!
I'll try that recipe Sandy, when Ron lets us eat it...lol!!! -------------- Bettia.... The secret of getting ahead is getting started. |

Those sound really good. I haven't had a tortilla in months :( What is CapTri(MCT oil)? Do you get it in the health food section?-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Some things have to be believed to be seen! |

You can use olive oil in place of it.-------------- As far as genetics go, the skies the limit. You are limited only by your mental perception of it. Ron |

That oil is what the recipe called for, but I did use olive oil in its place, because I didn't know what that oil was either?-------------- I will lift my own weight someday!!!!! THE NATURAL WAY IS THE ONLY TRUE PATH TO SUCCESS, PRIDE, JOY, HAPPINESS, LONG TERM FULFILLMENT AND SELF-ESTEEM! |

MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) is a fat, containing 8.3 calories per gram. However, because of its molecular structure, it digests in the body more like a carbohydrate. In fact, it is burned quicker than carbohydrates and has almost no tendency to be stored as body fat. MCT is used to sustain energy levels when lowering carbs or adding quality calories to your diet when trying to gain lean mass.
MCT is often used in weight loss programs because it possesses thermogenic effects and suppresses appetite when taken before meals. MCT Oil can be used in low heat cooking, as a salad dressing, or can be swallowed in small amounts for quick energy production. Recommended usage: It is important to start with small doses (1/4-1/2 tsp) and work up to a maximum of one tbl. twice daily. |

Has anyone else tried the La Tortilla Factory low carb tortillas?
They are good! They have (per tortilla) 80 calories, 3 g fat (no sat fat) no cholesterol 300mg sodium 19g CHO, but 14g is dietary fiber, and only 1g sugar 8g protein. The ingredients are actually pretty healthy - Whole wheat flour, water. oat fiber, soy bean flour, cold pressed canola oil, baking powder, salt, yeast, xantham gum, guar gum, citric acid, sorbic acid, calcium propionate hey are moist and don't fall apart too quickly - I like to put salmon in them or make lowfat cheese quesadillas. If you can't find them in a store you can look at www.latortillafactory.com. Bump! |
