I've just started with the bar bell and enjoying it so far...but today I was so excited to add some more weight to my paltry 20 pounds that I went ahead and added 10 pounds...but in order to maintain proper movement I had to lower my reps from 8 to 6 doing complex exercises. Is it OK to lower my reps with a higher weight...or should I stick with the weight I CAN do at a higher rep, looking to increase weight at a later time, verus keeping the weight higher loking to increase reps then weight?
I'm thinking it may not matter much either way.I was just so excited to add weight I did...then thought maybe I was cheating myself. Make sense?...hope so...my first real post on this topic! |

Well the complexes are not really a thing to go heavier on and or do all the time.-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! The Men and Boys are Separated by one thing: The Squat Cage! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

Now but it was meant as a additional workout kind like a cardio routine not a actualy workout

But i like it...your killing me!!
Please don't chew me here...I should probably go looking for the answer but I never understand what is being said when it comes to this stuff..SO What would be a good workout with the barbell for me other than complexes???I guess I should say...in addition to the complexes. |

This is where I get confused...how does this differ from what I'm doing right now?
1.(don't know what it's called..sorry)Pick the bar up from the floor raise it over my head, back to the floor 2.hold the bar wide over my head and pull it down to my shoulders and back up again 3.squats 4.good mornings 5.dead lift 6.armenian(sp?)dead lift 7.bicep curls Now with 30 pound weight,9 pound bar 6 reps 5 sets. They all seem so simialar I get confused...I want to start doing things where I can use the bar instead of my own body weight for resistance. |

They are all the same thing. Ok maybe this can help. WHat you are doing (complexes) is a supplement to a existing routine. I THINK they can be used for a normal routine but the problem lies with the fact they are susposed to be fast paced and more like a cardio workout instead of a weight workout. I just do not want you to add the weight and do them as fast as they should as this is not what they are for. Does that make sense?-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! Ok...I think I get it...thank you.BUT if I wanted to use these as weight training instead of cardio(yes,I understand that it would be better for a cardio than weight regiment)workout...is it not a good idea???I'm still trying to blast through the thought that cardio is the way to go...but I have no clue what to do when it comes to weights. It's much easier for me to go with what I know...so this venturing into new ideas is rough...and trying to figure out what to do is even rougher.I've used all the machines in the world but free weights are an all new concept....so thank you for bareing with me:)

Well my thought is this they (the collection of exercises) work your whole body. So if you added weight and took a bit more rest between sets then yes you could use it as a main workout. I was just worried that you may do too much with them is all.-------------- Less Talk, More Chalk! The Men and Boys are Separated by one thing: The Squat Cage! 7707mutt@freetrainers.com |

I changed my fitness profile to gaining mass..will probably have to adjust the number of reps, and keep my weight low...but something I can do...looks fun too.

Not me...I don't hang out in there...some others...but I know you guys are always willing to help out if I put the slightest thought into my questions.I just got my workout from my fitness profile all printed up ...if I can type next week I'll let you know how it goes...
One more quick question(well maybe 2)...have to ask...I'm really gonna miss my cardio...OK to run a mile on the treadmill before weights...takes about 10 minutes...and if I'm up for it cardio good on off days???And what if I did say 2 weeks weight training, one week cardio in intervals...doing the same thing over and over makes me crazy. |
