Well, everyone, here it is. What so many of you (hint, hint, Lumina!) have been waiting for. The official info website for the 2002 Olympia, to be held here in the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas! This site has show prices, etc., but what is great about this whole event is that basically almost everything is free except for the shows themselves! And it is just such an experience. Take a good look at the itinerary...

http://www.olympiaweekend.com/info/olympia2002.htm

As far as rooms go: the hotel which it’s being held at, Mandalay Bay, is going for about $350/night, without the group discount, which I’m not sure how much it is. However, the hotel right next door, Luxor (which is a HUGE pyramid) is going for about $170/night, but they are supposed to be honoring the same group discount (mention the code “Olympia 2002” to get it), which means less money. The other hotels within walking distance range from about $90 - $200/night. You could probably get a little cheaper off the Strip, but the differences I’ve been finding don’t seem to really warrant a rental car or cab fees.

Club fees range from $5-$20 dollars/person. Good meals on the average go for about $10 for lunch, $20 for dinner. Of course, if you hit one of the famous buffets, you’ll stuff yourself silly and probably won’t eat for a few days. But if you want to stay on a tight budget, I can always make cheap food and entertainment suggestions; there are PLENTY out here.

Let me know if I can help in any way. Hope to see a lot of ya out here for it!!!

Oh, I really wish I could go. I saw ametuer body building and would love to see a professional one, especially after meeting Earnie Taylor. He hasn't even started his diet yet and oh man, he's huge. I am truly jealous of you Michael. Have fun.

unfortunately, arnold, i dont think flex will do jack this year. i just saw him and chris cormier 2 weeks ago, and he has lost alot of mass, and cormier has gotten huge. but i really dont think any of this matters anymore; as i said in another post, the IFBB has become as bad as the WWF.

Coleman will win again this year, with Cutler again placing in the top 5 (without getting DQ'd). Coleman will retire afterwards, due to an "injury," and Cutler will take the O next year, unless he ticks off someone at weider between now and then. but right now, he is joe's new golden boy.

one of the reasons why i leave comps before the results are announced....

Hey.. a fellow IFBB fan!

I hear ya buddy.. but truly.. if Flex comes in his 98 Arnold Classic shape (225) which he is planning.. then he will get atleast 2nd if not first. The tides are slowly changing.. look at Darrem in Texas.. and guys like Dexter and Ahmed.

But yes.. Coleman will win it due to the politics. He was amazing the first year he won.. but now he's getting softer and losing his shape.. and having a baby? (his stomach is huge!) Let's hope the judges open their eyes this year.

It will be a good show.. hey.. for fun.. let's pick the top 6.. see who comes closest! :)

1. Flex Wheeler
2. Ronnie Coleman
3. Chris Cormier
4. Lee Priest
5. Dexter Jackson
6. Kevin Levrone

only 10 weeks away!

you're right about his gut.........damn GH! he just looks ill all over to me.

*sigh* okay, here we go with what it will be, but not, in my opinion, what it should be:
1. Coleman
2. Cutler
3. Cormier
4. Levrone
5. Wheeler
6. Jackson

ooooooooo, ur right! plus, now he lives here!
quoted from "Flex" magazine:

IRON JAY IN VEGAS AFTER ALL?!
Blanchette a Piece of Work
By Team FLEX
IRON JAY GAMBLES ON VEGAS
Forced to find to an area large enough to contain his unstoppable growth, Jay Cutler picked up the whole clan — Grandma, Jethro and Ellie May — and moved them to Las Vegas, Nevada, recently. Actually, Iron Jay and his wife, Kerry, were the only persons involved in this relocation from their Orange County, California, crib, but Cutler did bring one other important item: his hunger for bodybuilding greatness. Iron Jay is working out twice per day and hopes to hit the contest stage at the 2003 Arnold Classic at 270 pounds! Don’t mistake Cutler’s move to Sin City as an indication he’s changed his mind about the 2002 Olympia — he’s still not doing the sport’s biggest contest. Jay and his wife are just the latest bodybuilding personalities to trek to the glitzy oasis in the desert. Why? We’re not sure, though we think it has something to do with all those cheap buffets.

*veeeeeeeery interesting*

I am still planning on it. Lumina, are you still thinking about it? Hopefully we can track down Cain too. Thanks for putting all this together, it sounds like it will be awesome!

Sigh...I just realized something...I'm going to be broke very soon(I'm leaving my job to go to school full-time). I have an interview on Wednesday, and if I get this job I may still be able to swing it, so we will see. If I could drive there, it would be okay, but the airfare is too much and I live about a day away (driving).

Yeah, it's going to be tough. I still don't know 100% but as far as airfare I would expect it to be around $200 roundtrip from Dulles, VA. Not too bad. We'll have to keep kickin' it around.

I will be in Chicago in March for a wedding, is that where you live? I haven't been there in years but I am looking forward to it.

I've seen Flex Wheeler up close, he used to work out in my old gym. This guy should have won Mr. O at least once.

Ischji, I'm just now seeing this post...Yes, I do live in Chicago. A wedding in March in Chicago is probably going to be a bit chilly. I used to go to school in VA and flew out of Dulles many times, it's a nice airport. Are you still going to the Olympia?

Hey Lumina! Sorry I have not responded in some time. I have been overwhelmed at work and at home. I am back now, in some capacity. I do not think I will be making it to the Olympia this year. A conflict has arisen that takes precedence. Bummer, but alas, there is always next year.

I figured Chicago will be cold in March, not sure why my bud and his fiance picked that date. Are you from Chi.? Or a transfer from the Old Dominion? UVA is a great school and Charlottsville is beautiful, but I am partial to JMU!

Dulles is great, still very accessible at non-peak times.

Yes, I am from Chicago; when I decided on a college, getting as far away as possible from my parents was one of my main concerns (not a good idea). Charlottesville is very beautiful though; milder weather than Chicago.

I saw on a site that the Olympia is going to be televised this year. PayPerView of course. I was trying to find out if it was going to be available in Canada, but I can't find it anywhere. Some of the American cable channels and Sattelite companies will have it available.

Here they are:

1 Ronnie Coleman USA 29
2 Kevin Levrone USA 38
3 Chris Cormier USA 59
4 Dexter Jackson USA 93
5 Gunter Schlierkamp Germany 113
6 Lee Priest Australia 127
7 Flex Wheeler USA 109
8 Markus Ruhl Germany 116
9 Orville Burke USA 129
10 Dennis James USA 131
11 Craig Titus USA 165
12 Art Atwood USA 186
13 Ahmad Haider Lebanon 202
14 Ernie Taylor England 207
15 Nasser El Sonbaty Yugoslavia 222

Hey Mike, looks like we both got one placing right.. CORMIER! Will we settle for a tie on this bet! lol

Well I saw the PPV live and it was a great show.. almost everyone was in terrific shape.. very tough judging. I think that Levrone should have gotten it.. best he's been since 92. Plus ronnies gut that he can't even flex is so horrible. I think Gunter deserved 3rd.. the judges screwed him on the first round because they didn't notice him.. props to Gunter.

AS for Flex.. amazing physique for drug free this year..
