I've been weightlifting for about 2 years (I had been weighlifting before, but it was always an off, on type of thing). For about 3 months straight my 10 rep max has been about 155 (+/-1 rep). Recently, I went down to press and the amount of reps I put out were 14. I was shocked, because it seemed like this increase happened overnight, I remeber two days before i had trouble getting to ten. So,I checked to make sure I was really doing 155, and I was. The next day I checked to see if I really did 14 reps ( I thought I might have miscounted) but I did. For the longest time my one rep max has been 200lbs, and i know that if my ten rep max is higher i should be able to do more in one rep. But, this is not the case. I went online and calculated what it should be and the calculation said 242lbs. I had a feeling something was wrong with that number so I tried 225 instead, and I couldn't do it. I normally workout one day, take a rest the next day, then workout again the next day. I tried to do my max on my off day. My question is should I take a longer break before I try for my O.R.M. or is the calculation just wrong?

What type of routine is that where you are benching so much? No you got the right numbers just in the wrong order your max would be 224.

First off , when you do 14, there's a chance you're doing partials...isntead of full ROM...form tends to disintegrate over high rep sets...my friend pulled some crap like that where he came all excited and said he went from 225 for 1 to 225 for 8....then I saw....he was doing 1/2 reps....and even less towards last few reps....are you locking completely out on every rep? are you lowering to the chest on every rep?

Also high rep sets dont really translate to higher number 1 rep sets....the formulas work semi well for up to 10 reps...and pretty well for 2-5 reps....I was doing 25 rep sets at one point....which overestimated my max by close to 80lb.....even taking the fact that 155 for 10 is semi accurate it would be around 225 as Mutt pointed out....and even that is probably 10-25lb overestimated...your muscles and CNS are not used to the weight...there's very little chance you can hit the formula max....
