I'm worse off than i first thought. After about 10 years of being a couch potato i couldn't do even the 1 pushup in the home fitness plan. I can't make it up a single flight of stairs without getting slightly winded. I'm going to have to start off small. I want to to strength training and cardio but I don't have time outside of work except at home in the evenings. I'll need to buy some equipment. Walmart sells a Powerhouse gym that runs for right at $200 that looks pretty solid. Shows 25 exercises that resemble a "circuit". Any opinions on starting off with that and a treadmill? (also from wal-mart). Thanks.

Start doing pushups on your knees...you will be able do more while still increasing strength. Both machines will work...actually as long as you are consistant then you will be successful....Even some dumbells, resistance bands and the will to succeed will work...Get out for more walks...Anyincrease in activity will help and you can go from there...
Make sure you have fun with it!

start small..but get started. All journeys begin with the same small steps. Treadmill, bench and free weights in the basement, that's exactly where I am right now, and things are going well. Fill out your nutrition and fitness plans, and get started at your own pace. Have faith in yourself..Good luck to you.

Once push ups on your knees is straightforward, you can do push ups on the stairs - start with your hands on the 4th step, and gradually work down to the first step and finally the floor.

There is an option in the Freetrainers fitness plan to specify what equipment, if any, you have available.
