so in my quest to cut out extra and unnessesary sugar i decided to switch to natural peanutbutter. so i after looking at several jars in the "natural" pb section in the store i thought all the natural ones looked the same so i got the skippy becxause it was the cheapest ( my man just lost his job)... anyway when i got it home hubby asks whats the difference so i go to compare labels to normal pb..... and what do you know!!!!
Skippy naturals is exactly the same as the regular store brand pb!!!! sugar and all!
so much for that (don't worry im taking it back next time i go to the store.)
but wanted to let everyone know that just because it says "natural" doesn't mean that it is!

No the difference (I believe- maybe there is more to it than this) is that there aren't any hydrogenated oils in the "natural" peanut butter. It should separate with oil on the top. Hydrogenated fats are solid at room temp so you put it in peanut butter or shortening (Crisco) and get solid oils at room temperature and don't have to deal with stirring the peanut butter up before you eat it.

Natural peanut butter is definitely better for you because it lacks the hydrogenated stuff that your body is unable to process.

And also natural does not mean sugar free. Your post leads me to believe that you think that it is true. but you are very correct to not trust labels. Don't trust it when it says whole wheat or organic you need to flip the product over and double check the label to make sure that it is.

House,
To continue with what bobo said, you'll find a lot of discussion about natural PB on this site, this is one example with good info:
http://www.freetrainers.com/FT/jsp/pro/Message.jsp?f_ix=3&t_ix=1051

What you mentioned was a good point, don't just read the big "NATURAL" banner accross the front, check out the ingredients.

For example, I just buy the store brand, it contains: Roasted peanuts, and salt. That's it.

For 2tbsp (32g) serving:
Total fat 16g (25%)
Trans fat 0g
Polyunsat Fat 4g
Monounsat Fat 8g
Cholest 0mg
Sodium 120mg (5%)
Total carbs 6g (2%)
Fiber 2g
Sugars 2g
Protein 8g
Calcium 2%
Iron 2%
