I often come here and see all the different imaginative names that people use. Where do you take your inspiration for them from?

'Kalanchoe' is the proper name of the flower that is also called 'Flaming Katie'.

I got the inspiration for my nick, The Rainmaker, from Norse mythology. I used to wear a Thor’s Hammer necklace all the time, and since Thor is the Norse god of the sky (Specially rain, thunder and lightning) I thought, “why not go for TheRainmaker?” and I did. I later found out that there was a book and a movie with the title “The Rainmaker” and I felt a lot less original after that, but the nick I still use.

Gwindalyn is a bit of a long story. :) I've been online for roughly 11 years now. I used to go by Sunshine. I play a LOT of video games. When Everquest came out 4 years ago, Sunshine would not go through, so I had to think of a new name. My real name is Jennifer, and I didn't want to use it. So I tried the welsh origin of my name, Guinevere. It would not work. So I tried Gwinevere, and it still wouldn't work. Then it was Gwindolin, which did not work. Then Gwindalyn worked. Even though I no longer play Everquest I've used that name since. So, in a way, it is a variation of my actual name. :p I even have RL friends who also played the game call me Gwin now instead of Jen. LOL!

With me, it seemed that any "cool" name that I could come up with was believe it or not already taken! Even names I thought for sure I must have made up...So, I started thinking, I am a bodybuilder, I am fit, so I tried BBFIT! Believe it or not, that was taken!! So, I added the 1 in there, and have been that ever since...that's my story and I'm sticking to it!! LOL....

My initials are K R B...in HS some boys thought I was cute and had a code name for me - Kirby. I eventually found out (when I started dating one of them!) and now I use it as my nick sometimes. But just Kirby didn't work so I had to throw some numbers at the end. I graduated from university in 00 :)

Everyone has some meaning to their username. Mine 'ATIGER' is simply because I am a big college football fan and my team is the AUBURN TIGERS.

Hmmm... i never really used this nickname before until I met RW, so i guess it originated from him, after a short while of dating, when my hair was really long, he saw it blowing in the wind one day and called me his Raven Beauty and it has stuck since.

Carivan comes from 2 names. (Chrysler isn't one of them!)
My wife's name is Carolyn, and we needed a generic email address for both of us, so the name became carivan.

Long story for my nic, but you asked:

The 8ball part started when I was back in high school. (By the way - it has NOTHING to do with cocaine!) For those who play billiards, you know that the ball that literally controls the game is the 8 ball. Starting in sports and moving into my personal life, my friends always said “You are dangerously unpredictable… you’re the 8 ball in the equation.” That’s when they dubbed me with that.

The rev part comes from several years ago from one night when I was visiting my friend’s restaurant. We were all enjoying ourselves when a female friend that I had not spoken with in quite some time saw me and started talking to me. Well, for the next half hour, she proceeded to tell me her life story for the last several years. When she left, my friends were laughing, saying all that they noticed was her mouth going and me just shaking my head in some sort of agreement. Then one said “It looked like you were her priest, and she was telling you her confession!” Then he started calling me the “right-reverend,” which then the rest of my friends merged into the Reverend 8 Ball, and the rest, well, you know...

That's a great story behind your nickname! It means something when you get given a nic as opposed to making one up. Although they can be good too! Although, i think my friends would laugh at me if they knew why i use the nic i do. They tend to go for silly names!

Lonegirl is me. Since highschool 98% of my closest friends have been guys. So it has always been "Pat and the guys" doing this and that. I mesh much better with guys and tend to have more in common with them ie: I like video games, and role playing games, I like sports (was a major tom boy growing up) I laugh at the same stuff they do, I like action films, I love having fun with them, I am a slob so could careless that my bachelor friends are slobs....lol I am just one of the guys! LONEGIRL Don't get me wrong I do girly things too....but it is easier to be myself around guys than girls.

LOL @ ravenbeauty's comment - DPKing does mean "rides on trikes with banana seats"

As to my handle: I_Am-azon - I added the underscores etc because the name Amazon was already taken. Back when I was seriously into Taekwondo - I got the nickname Amazon woman, mostly due to my height and build I guess. I also started practising those cool sword spinning manoevres for my blackbelt test, lending more to that handle. It kinda stuck.

I just wanted an ID that wasn't cool or attempting to make myself look tough(if thats possible)... I wanted something a little fun but the ID alone I thought might be taken as a little arrogant so I added the picture.

I never post messages here, I usually just read because every question I have has usually been answered many times so I just search. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the regulars who answer all the FAQ. You guys have been a great help to me and probably many others like me who never actually post. Thanks!

Mine is because my favorite animal is the elephant (effa-lunt in cute terms). Elephants are strong, but only use force as a last resort. Amazing how such a powerful animal is also so gentle. If one dies, the rest of the herd crowd around and have kind of a wake for it. If I ever work up the nerve for a tattoo, it will be two elephants on my lower back with their trunks forming a heart.

Lol.. Drio has come from a long chain of events and revisions. Ok.. first off.. my father nicknamed me "droid" as a child. I guess I used to like pretending to be a robot in my youth. Then I started gaming online and decided to use the name Droid for that. Like Gwindalyn I was a EverQuest addict years ago.. and since the name Droid wasn't very good for rollplaying as a druid woodelf.. I used Driodous (Swiftpaw). My friends in EQ land abbrieviated that down to Drio. I lived my life as a woodelf named "Drio" so long it kinda stuck. So there's my GEEKY evolution of my username.

Ogun is the African God of War and Iron. Bingo (So I'm white, who cares?)

Actually I played him in a college religion play too :D Was fun, used a bathroom square rug for skirt and the toilet rug attached to a tablecloth for cape. It was sweeeeet. I like Rainmaker's tho; my ancestor's are Norwegian (pops traced us back to the Norse Raiders/Vikings) but Thor sounds bigger than me and Eric the Red is the wrong color. Horny Helmet had no appeal.
