I think it's amazing that although few of have ever all will ever meet one another face-to-face, there are distict personalities emerging, and you can guess at someone's personality just by what they write.
Just wanted to make that observation. does anyone else find this? -------------- *My body only feels good when it burns! *Little voice telling you to quit? Put your fingers in your ears! *"Life shrinks or grows in proportion to one's courage" |

Definitely...Much like reading a novel...you can always pick up a little on a writer's sense of humor, moral character or intelligence level etc...without seeing their face....Certain writers attract me simply because I enjoy the way that they write...Especially those that write as though you're sitting face to face and speaking directly to them...even in third person format:o)
I think I've rambled on a bit<smile>....So, in short, me too. |

<sigh> So I guess I did go WAY off on the subject, but I was just thinking this morning that I wish I could have met Robert Heinlein...

Funny you should say that, I just met Ravenwolf and Ravenbeauty this past weekend. Great to actually meet an aquaintance from FT! We had a good time, they're a great couple.

LOL Amazon!
I agree. :) You can somewhat tell a person's personality the more they write. But, in my years online, I've also been completely fooled by some people as well. :) I guess it's no different than face to face really. Some people are themselves and others put up a front. :) -------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com If you dont stand for something, you will fall for anything. |

Have to say that "Friday" and "Stranger in a Strange Land" are the top contenders....Still have yet to read "Cat Who Walks Through Walls<title right?>...."Friday" is a great book.....I love Heinlein's train of thought...Though many of his ideas could not fit in society's moral structure...sad, but I feel it's true.

Oh yeah, DEFINITELY Gwin....I learned that the hard way at work....Blah!!! Some people. Many good people out there too though :o) But, then, different strokes for different folks makes the world go 'round, right? :o)

Gwin - I always wonder about people who do portray someone else online - like, how do they remember everything???? Do they keep notes? LOL
jefado - Heinleins views are amazing - the "regeneration" of people seems almost to be feasible option in the future. Spooky stuff! |

Azon-you mean like write down their different specs and opinions for each character on a sheet of paper to type online with? I sorta know some people who do that walking around :o) Hee hee....Just smile and nod.
Heinlein-great stuff..Lots of strong female roles in his books too. |

It is kind of as I like to say, you get to "know" the people on here after a while, the regulars anyway. You can sense their personalities, traits, lifestyles, even alot of their politics! I know I freely express mine, and this comes with being comfortable with the "family". I feel it really does become a "family". It would be cool to meet some of the faces behind the postings. Cool that DP met RB and RW. Maybe a FT convention would be in order some day! We will have a big protein shake for a toast to each other! -------------- The one goal you will NEVER achieve is the one you never attempt. |

LOL jefado! I know people here at work who do that in RL too! I have no clue how they remember what they told to who. To me, it's hard to understand why someone would be that way. It takes four times more work and it's stressful. Not to mention that you never really get that true friendship. I'd think it is a lonely way to be.
I've never read any Heinlein. I'm an avid reader, so maybe I'll check his books out the next time I pick one up. :) -------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com If you dont stand for something, you will fall for anything. |

It was a great get together with DP, we had a great time seeing Seattle. Thanks DP you are a great guy too! RW and I had both thought of planning some type of FT get together in a Central location. We missed out on meeting Rev8ball, but we'll see him in March probably since we are most likely going back to Vegas to get married.
It would be a neat thing to do, get together for a weekend of fun (FT STYLE!!!) BB1fit, second on the Protein Shake Toasts...lol -------------- Bettia.... When you feel like giving up, take it to the limit one more time!! You will SUCEED :-) |

Heinlein's the man- I dug "Number of the Beast" and "I will Fear no Evil"... both kind of 70's free-love sci-fi trippy.

Gwin-as far as human nature goes, you take the good with the bad..embrace what you can handle or apppreciate...let what you can't change go......that's my way of thinking.
Mutt-Grok or Wrok? Oh well...either or...I know what you mean :o) Clarke, huh? I haven't read any..What's the full name..In the same genre as Heinlein? All: No, really, date...time...place...For Con? Is everyone REALLY interested? If nothing else, we'll have a huge picnic and grill some....chicken ('cause I know how much everyone loves it) |

Realistic timeframe? In order to allow for individuals to take time from work, schedule transportation and quarters for a Con, let alone collect the money to go (for individuals like me who aren't rolling in the dough<smile>) and allow for possible assistance for people if necessary, 6 months or even a year would be best?
Then deciding on where to have it....A good central location with an international airport(For those living outside of the states)? |

"...you can guess at someone's personality just by what they write." Now, I'm really scared of what you guys think of me!
I'm sorry too that I missed the Ravens, but I think both Vegas and I will be here for awhile. And regarding an FT convention: I don't remember the thread or the post, but that was discussed about a year ago. It'd be cool, and, of course, you know where I would vote to have it (*ahem* VEGAS!). And it would be even better to have it at the time of one of the major shows, like the Olympia. Just a thought...... -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |

That probably would be a great place to have it....My friends who have been are always telling me that there's something new to see everytime they go......Maybe we could start having one there on the same day every year....That's a good idea, Mr. 8 ball. |

But what date would be best? Weatherwise-what season or time of year? ...We'd need to pick a really great (inexpensive please)hotel that would provide discounts to convention members..... Not that it would be hard with all the hotels in Vegas :o)

jefado- you might be right been over 15 years or so since I picked that book up I believe ti is grok. Oh well LOL so much for my memory! The other name is Arthur C Clarke. He is in sci-fi, but is more techincial then Heinlein was. But still wrote some of the best out there. Also issac asimov, gregory benford, david brinn, and a few others out there are awesome. I am also a big tolkien and robert jordan, and stephe donaldson fan as well.

If we do have an FT convention out here, let's coordinate it to everyone's cheat-weekend so we can all hit the buffets - what better city to forget about your diet that the city of excess!
I think probably the best time would be what you people call "Fall," and what we call "The 2 week period between 125 and 30 degrees..." October is a great month: lots of cultural food festivals out here; but even more so with the Olympia expo (which is free). And I do love to play tour guide. or even have a convention without the founders of FT present :o) I'm still sorta revved about the whole idea.... Hey, Mr. 8 ball has said he'll be our Tour Guide....How cool is that!!! A place is so much better to visit when you have someone who knows the place <smile> |
