I love fresh pineapple but for some reason it makes my tongue numb, my whole sense of taste changes and everything I eat after it tastes like... poi. Or at least tasteless mush, which is what I imagine poi would taste like. Is this normal or am I having some weird reaction to pineapple?

I know of several people who have strange reactions to pineapple - some are allergic. Pineapple also seems very acidic. My tounge get a little numb too - only from fresh, I have no problem with pineapple from a can.

Yes, it's very acidic. That's probably the problem. Pineapple in a can isn't as bad. But fresh pineapple, my tongue will feel strange and my sense of taste will be off for at least a few hours.
LOL Thanks!

Have pineapple with some cottage cheese or milk. I think it reduces the effect of acid on your tongue. :)

Wow, thanks! I had no idea. Maybe I'll try it w/ some yogurt. I still have some.
Thanks, Konary.

I used to eat pineapple sandwiches all the time when I was overseas. Good stuff.

I recently had a Teriyaki Chicken/Pineapple sandwich - it was very tasty too!

That only happens to me with fresh pineapple. I thought maybe it was cuz I didnt cutt off all the 'bad' part. Weird.
